To get to the trail you have to go through about 5 miles of rocky road - heads up. Trail started out at steady incline through forested trees that were pretty and kept me shaded which was good. Once you come out though it’s nothing but a straight climb up rocks and a steady incline up the mountain. Had to take a couple breaks and I’m a pretty experienced hiker. Huge horse flies on the way up which were annoying and I would say the trail wasn’t marked clearly for the rock part. The top was crowded with people and horse flies. The view was just eh because it was foggy so pictures were hard to get from any angle. The trip back down the trail was tough on the knees, quads, calves -pretty much entire legs lol but I finished it. Not sure i would climb it again. It’s three days later and I’m still sore all over my legs. Bring lots of water - for the steep incline rock part. I went through 64oz by the time I was done.

Hiked this today. Many opportunities for beautiful pics. Hike was pretty easy, just long. Not too many people on the trail which was great. Weather was perfect and trail was easy to find thanks to this All Trails App. Would do this hike again.

Half of the trail was snowed out and had to trek through it which was I wasn’t expecting. Trail was not clearly marked because of it. Would have enjoyed this trail a lot more probably in a couple of months. The views were pretty though. Was really looking for the Twenty Lakes trail which was supposed to be off of this one but because trail wasn’t marked clearly just ended up finishing this trail instead.

Tons of bugs on this easy hike around the lake but you right by water so it’s to be expected. Definitely make sure you were bug deterrent before going. Lake was peaceful and beautiful with ducks floating all over and some people fishing of the side and on the lake. Super easy hike. More for picture moments than anything. Lassen Peak was right behind still with smoke on its peak and looked beautiful reflecting off the water.

Definitely worth the hike up. The views were awesome. Probably one of the toughest hikes to do is up steep terrain with lava rock as your treading but made it to the top. Did this hike yesterday. Weather was perfect. This park is gorgeous and all the lakes and white peaked mountains were stunning. Will definitely return.

I’m not sure I made it to the top- TOP... the trail was not marked that well because of that it didn’t get 5 stars in my opinion. Based on reviews on here I knew it would be rocky but once I was on it and climbing up I realized this trail wasn’t for me . I mean I’m glad I did it (or attempted to do it, who knows if where i was at was the end) but i wouldn’t do this trail again. When climbing that steep you need to have things clearly marked. The views I saw were good. The cactus was cool at the bottom and on the way up but it was hot as hell.i wish I would have gone at sunrise not noon. That was my bad. I don’t think this trail would actually be that difficult if it was clear where you are going. That’s all.

This was strenuous but well worth it when you get to the top. I recommend going super early to miss the crowds and also the heat. Not too much shade if you hike it later. The people coming up in the hear while we were going down looked miserable. Switchbacks in the beginning are crazy at a steep incline. The way back down was easy. Beautiful red rock views along the way and we left at like 5am to get there before sunrise and literally chased the sun coming up to meet it at the top. It was a great day.

Hiked this the other day. Perfect weather. I found it the hardest on the way up as it got hotter. Beautiful scenery made it worth it. Probably one of the harder hikes I’ve done due to the elevation the whole way back up to the top.
