pretty easy and laid back hike which makes for a great day with the kids. The trails here are very easy to follow and well marked. You could easily spend hours on this trail playing in the water, climbing the rocks in the river, skipping rocks, etc. my 8 yr old son and 6 yr old niece loved it. we completed the quantico cascades trail and then hopped onto the north valley loop. The kids also loved seeing the pyrite mining ruins. a great day outside and would recommend bringing water shoes to play in the water. a new favorite trail

I took my 8 year old son on this trail and we had a blast. the trail itself is pretty rocky in most parts and runs parallel to the stream/river/falls pretty much the entire way. This provided tons of opportunities for us to play on the rocks in the river and eventually the waterfalls and their pools. There were many fallen trees along the way, but the scenery was always beautiful. I prefer uphill treks to downhill (downhill is hard my knees), so the way back up was better for me. its definitely a very steady and rocky incline, but nothing that was too much. i stopped maybe 3 times for my son to take a break, but we made it back up quicker and easier than we made it down (we also stopped many times to play in the water on the way down.) not too heavily trafficked, and a very fun time. will definitely do again!

steady incline all the way to the summit which makes the viewpoint even better. A great way to get your heart rate up but not super difficult. It took about 35ish minutes to reach the top. Took my 8 yr old son and we did this hike after the cedar run trail so we were pretty spent upon arrival. going back down was actually harder than going up, but i think for us, this was due to already hiking the cedar run trail. The view is absolutely amazing and very very well worth every minute. there is also a shelter atop of the climb. Would definitely do it again!

great trail! short easy hike to the stony man view point. i took my 8 yr old son and 6 yr old niece, and we hiked to the viewpoint with no problem. beyond the viewpoint, the trail gets pretty narrow in some spots as well as pretty rocky. the kids enjoyed climbing the natural rock walls. we ended up turning around when the trail became to rocky and narrow for them to navigate. if i'd been by myself or with other adults, i wouldn't have felt the need to turn around. will definitely be returning!

the first 0.61 miles of the piedmont trail going toward ambassador is all uphill. I'm pretty physically fit and it was definitely a challenge. there are 2 benches at the viewpoint at the top of the hill where you can rest and enjoy the incredible and well earned view. the rest of the trails are moderate, with north ridge being difficult. some trails were closwd for maintenance, but these closures are easy to bypass and the trails are still very much accessible. super scenic and excellent trail...very worth it! wouldn't recommend for younger kids.
