About 2 1/2 hours from Colorado Springs. We did have some trouble finding the Kite Lake dirt road as it wasn't noticeaby marked. In the town of Alma, it is where the crosswalk is. I loved this hike! Did the whole loop: Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, and Bross with my adult daughter and her dog. Once you get up Democrat, I thought the hike wasn't to difficult. We parked at Kite Lake and paid the couple of dollars to park. Bross coming down has a lot of scree. I didn't bring my trekking poles and wished I had. Other than that, the views were amazing! No where to really eat in Alma though and we were really hungry! Made up for it in Woodland Park though.

My friends and I did this hike last weekend. This is a great hike, but I don't consider it easy. There are a lot of boulders and rocks to navigate. In my opinion, the beginning portion (and end portion on return) is the toughest part of the trail. There is a mountain creek that will be with you for a big part of the way. Make sure you have good hiking shoes and those trekking poles come in handy. Views are great. We accessed the trail via the Air Force Academy. You need a military ID to get on base, but you can easily sponsor friends who don't have access. The trail is easy to find. Just follow the signs to the hospital. Go around to the west of it with the road. There is a guard here. Show your ID again and immediately take the dirt road to your west. The dirt road forks. Take the fork to the right. Trail is marked by #707.

This trail was hard to find at first. I followed the directions but would like to add a few landmarks so it is easier to find. Turn onto the dirt road that is marked by the "Lazy Land" blue sign then drive until you see a parking area. Walk to the "Yucca Flats" blue sign then walk right until you see a small wooden post. The post points to the trailhead. Overall, I really enjoyed the hike a lot. Great scenery! The trail is fairly easy to follow but occasionally the rocks camouflage the trail a few times. I recommend.

I did this hike with a group of friends earlier this year. There was still snow on the trail especially in the shadow areas making for slippery sections. If you hike this when snow is still around, I highly recommend those shoe chains to put around your hiking shoes and maybe even a hiking pole. That makes a world of a difference! Falling hurts! Trailhead is on the same road as the turn off for Mueller State Park. In fact, I think it might of been a 1/4 of a mile away on the opposite side of the street so easy to find.

I thought the trail was intermediate. We decided to go to Pancake Rocks. I can see why it is called Pancake Rocks. Once at the top, the view is just beautiful! I had to strike a yoga pose up on those rocks too. Very empowering!
