Kristen Ortwerth reviewed Rocks and Vistas Garden of the Gods Trail

If it were less of a madhouse, I'd probably enjoy it more, but I appreciate the draw. The scenery is beautiful, and very convenient to Colorado Springs. It's an easy walk, and the areas further from the main "garden" are less crowded.

Tough to hike with sand and gravity working against you, but if you're having trouble, just take it slow, don't give up, and look forward to the speed and ease of coming back down. The views are totally worth it! Took someone's advice and wore gaiters, hiking boots, and snug clothing, so came away a little gritty, but not as sandy as others. Recommend at least 2L of water per person.

Took the 4WD road to the Sand Ramp trailhead, parked, backpacked to Little Medano backcountry campsite (0.7 miles, uphill, in the sand). There is a drought, so Little Medano Creek was dry, which was a shame; we ended up going back to the road and carrying water back. We set up camp and then hiked just past Aspen and back with lighter gear. As others mentioned, there seems to be a lot of unnecessary winding, but the views are beautiful. I'm surprised people rate this trail so low, but maybe it's the time of year that you go? We had a great overnight, and then packed up and hiked the dunes on Day 2.

Kristen Ortwerth reviewed Devil's Head Lookout Trail to Fire Tower

I live at sea level, so with the altitude change this was a tough first day hike for me with a backpack, but very doable. Stopped to eat about halfway, and the views are (as advertised) incredible; there are some stunning vistas along the trail, not just up at the tower. It was busy, but not too crowded to accommodate runners, families, etc.

Visited mid day on a Friday, and it was pretty crowded. The parking lot on site can't accommodate more than a handful of cars, and there were a number of people there climbing on the rocks or walking in the water. This is definitely a cool place, and the graffiti varies in quality. If you're in the area, it's worth the stop, but don't go out of your way for it.

Easy walk, and enjoyed a stunning sunset here. Highly recommended for a casual afternoon walk!

This is an easy walk, and it was not crowded. We arrived late in the day and watched the sun set from Lyons Overlook. Saw many deer wandering around, as well as a large rabbit at the Persee house, and wildflowers everywhere. Word to the wise: you must be out of the park by 9 in the summer, which means a rushed exit if you want to go at sunset.
