    Kirsten Olson reviewed Chasm Lake

Lots of snow drifts! The cairns mentioned below were covered coming up the mountain, but visible on the way down. That being said, the crossing was a bit of a “choose your own adventure” situation: forget the trail and try to stay out of the drifts as you make your way towards the pass. Snowshoes would be helpful but bring a map, poles, microspikes and gaiters/snowpants at the minimum. Great views and lots of fun

Amazing hike! The trail is indeed moderate until you get to the terminus of the Reed Lakes trail, but the scramble up to Bomber Glacier is very tough - steep and sketchy rock slide-outs. If you give the glacier a shot, give yourself lots of time to tackle it safely. You will be rewarded with some incredible views.

Not very exciting but a decent way to mix up running on sidewalks. Worth a shot if you’re stuck in one of the hotels in the area contracting for Microsoft and need a change of scenery from jogging the campus.

Amazing views offset any negatives this trail offers. Expect lots of steep climbs and descents and lots of horseflies if you're going in the summer. Despite the "heavily trafficked" notation in the trail description, parking was easy and we didn't pass many other hikers on the trail. Definitely recommend.

Amazing views of the mountains and river throughout. The lake is a fantastic finish. Not nearly as crowded as Colchuck, which was nice. Definitely some tough inclines, but you get more than enough breaks to make up for it. LOTS of mosquitoes!

Lots of fun boulder problems and good rock. Very cool little area

The grade going up is pretty gentle, but thanks to the deep and soft sand it was a LOT of work. Bring LOTS of water! We took Burnt Hill on the way up and Eureka back down which provided a nice variety of scenery. Deducting a star because finding the Eureka Peak trail head was a pain in the neck (hence why we ended up taking Burnt Hill up).

Overall great trail. The 3 mike access road you have to walk to/from the actual trailhead is a slog and the only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5. There is a bike rack at the trailhead, so definitely recommend biking the access road if you can. There was gorgeous snowfall but only about a foot by the time I hit the lake, so super manageable without any more gear than wool socks, waterproof boots and pants. Poles would have been nice on the way down but very doable without them

Agree with the other comments recommending Walkers Knob. Definitely worth the very short detour! Overall great hike - one of my new favorites in the area

Great moderate hike. We did not do the Johns Rock loop and it took about 2 hours. Easy to find trail head, well blazed and pretty well groomed overall

Overall great trail! The walk from the campground is about 20 minutes and on the duller side, but you are rewarded with some really awesome views. Also, despite hiking this on a Saturday afternoon, we only crossed paths with two other pairs of hikers!

Overall great trail. It lives up to its 'difficult' rating with steep terrain and obstacles but has some flat parts to recover with. Some new views at the top but the trail is mostly wooded
