The best thing about this trail is convenience, you can access it through many different points in Portage. There are also linked trails that total around 16 miles. For biking this trail can be frustrating because it is HEAVILY used and there is a lot of slow moving traffic to contend with

A lot of sand/sand dune hiking. Spots can be exhausting, but the view is worth it.

The nature preserve has a pretty prairie that you can walk through and a hiking trail that goes all the way around the lake close to the shore. There are several tiny beaches where you could swim or fish. I've seen many deer out on the trail. If you go around one side of the lake and then back around the other you could hike around 5 miles.

The portions of the trail that go over the water are a floating dock system, there is a sign that says "Potential For Wet Shoes", more like potential for wet everything, in spots the water sprays up at least five feet in the air.

This trail may be above my skill/comfort level. There are a ton of hills, lots of roots and stones, a lot of tight weaving in and out of trees. I fell several times, it was a little rough for me.

This is one of my new favorite places, it has a ton of hiking trails through lots of varied scenery. There are also around five miles of mountain biking trails with hills, roots and a log jump. There are several sandy spots.

The portion of the trail the runs from 10th St towards downtown Kalamazoo starts out lovely and is a fairly easy ride; however, as the trail progresses things aren't so great. The trail turns into an on road bike lane that passes directly in front of a strip club and then moves on through a questionable area of town. The other stretch of the trail that runs from D Avenue towards downtown is beautiful. it runs through the Kalamazoo Nature Center. On that stretch there are a lot of hills so it is quite a workout!
