This is the southern portion of the Lake Natomas loop. Part of it is right along the freeway which is awful but thankfully short lived. The trail is shaded and good for hike and bike.

As far as urban hikes go this is a great stretch. Easy to add the lake loop and in the summer a non fire on the beach is awesome.

One of my favorite walks in the city. I usually park by Ft Point and go as far as China Beach but this segment is awesome. The hike down to the beach is worth it.

Hike the GG Bridge while your at it !!

Just a fun experience. I usually go from here to the top of Lombard.

Classic high Sierra Nevada terrain and a great day hike. Parking is free and the trail head rather easy to find. The trail is marked but I suggest a map (as always) because it is easy to get off the trail. I rarely worry about "the trail" and we actually got off of it to climb the rocky peaks. Yes, I would recommend .

A really good trail. Great way to spend the day. Lots of activities on both end either at Muir Woods or Stinson and you can take Steep Ravine back to break up the monotony of an out-n-back.

One of my favorite local morning hikes. I usually start in Historic Folsom. Free parking and the old power plant is interesting. Cross over the truss bridge to the north trail since it is less shaded and the mornings are cooler then use the more shaded southern trail passing the CSUS Aquatic Center for the way back. Don't feel like you have to stay on the paved bike trail. Lots of dirt trails with great river access run parallel and more enjoyable. Enjoy the fish hatchery and aquatic center and make a day of it. Plenty of places in Historic Folsom to eat and drink both before and after the hike. PS - I always get closer to 13 miles.

I have hiked this trail and portions of the TRT for years. When I was deployed memories of this trail and the view from the top helped keep me grounded. It is steep but the trail is well marked and not that long of a hike. Rocky in parts especially near the top. If your not used to the altitude take your time. It is worth the climb.

Picking up the Dipsea Trail at Muir Woods is a great option because the parking is free and pretty safe as well as mostly shaded plus it is such a beautiful area. The trail is in good condition, steep in parts but very doable even for the occasional hiker. Bring protection from the sun even on cloudy days. The trail is usually wide and when you get to Stinson Beach lots of places to eat and shop. Highly recommend.

The PG loop is nice but correctly the MPR Trail is 29 miles from Castroville to Pacific Grove. Great urban trail and at low tide you can opt to walk the entire beach. I like to pick it up by the old Ft Ord. Free, safe parking and easy access. Suggest using the actual trail on parts and then the beach for others to break up the out-n-back scenery. Lot of ways to cut the trail is easy and enjoyable sections based on your mood.

The proper name of this trail is the Thunder Mountain Trail and that is how it is marked locally. The trailhead is just west of the Expedition lift. Not sure of the track shown.
The trail is the shortest but steepest route to High Camp

I have literally grown up on this trail. There are several off shoots and unpaved trails for running and even horses as well, especially in the Fair Oaks and Orangevale areas.

It's quiet and an easy stroll / hike. Not sure who rated it as moderate since the terrain is generally flat, it is a short hike and the trail is well maintained. Summer is hot and only partially shaded. Brings sunscreen and a hat.
