This quiet area is just down the road from Zion Ponderosa. The trail is an old road that is pretty sandy at times. We had rented a mini van so we didn't make it far on the road but an off-roading type truck or car could go as far as the yellow house. As you follow along the trail you begin to wonder if your getting anywhere and then you enter Zion National Park and then Jolley Gulch is straight ahead. Careful as it is a long way down. I crawled on my stomach to the edge and took pictures looking down as it was dangerous. There was equipment there for belaying down into the slot canyon so someone had gone down that day it appeared. It was a fantastic little hike that made for a great cap to the day of hiking we had just finished.

My dad and I love this hike!!! This past weekend we stayed at one of our favorite spots at Sherwood Campground. You can walk across the log crossing the river at the campground and can walk along game trails until you get to the better conditions of the trail leading to Tamanawas falls. The trail takes you right to the trail head. After we came from the falls we were still ready to hike some more so we hopped on the trail that is next to a small yellow trail marker that actually says tamanawas falls. From there you just head up the trail until you get into the Elk Meadows wilderness. From there there are many options for trails. We took the elk meadows trail until it crossed the same river that runs down to Tamanawas Falls.

This was a great trail for getting short of breath and to make your legs burn. From the start you are going up and the up doesn't really stop until you intersect with the dog river trail. From the trail head on highway 35 to the first intersection, the signs say it is 1.8 miles. This 1.8 is full of switchbacks that make the a lot of elevation gain in a relatively short time. I had a great time, my dad and I did it up to where it intersects with forest service roads (on the surveyor's ridge trail). My biggest complaint would be the amount of mountain bikers that were zooming down the mountain with not much concern for hikers being around the next corner. Overall it was a pretty good trail and the views of hood at the viewpoint are some of the best I have seen

This was a great hike that my friend and I did. She was not quite as into hiking as I so we took it very slow on the way up. The multitudes of trails made it fun to find the ones we wanted to hike up. We were one of two cars parked at the trailhead on a Tuesday midday so I would highly recommend going during the week as we did not see another person the entire time. The sun was pretty harsh so it may be advisable to bring lots of water, a hat and plenty of sunscreen. Judging by the trail conditions I would also say that mountain biking at this location would be a blast.
