Kelsey V reviewed Blue Lakes Trail

This is definitely a challenging hike, but the payoff at the end is stunning. The first mile is the steepest but really it is a steady incline with few reprieves all the way to the lake. I’d suggest starting early in the morning. Even at high altitude it was very hot in mid-June when we started at 11. Make sure to bring bug spray and a lot of water. We made it up in about 2 1/2 hours and down in a little under 2 hours.

It is absolutely worth the looooong drive down the dirt road. The view of the lake when you get to the ranch is stunning. The hike itself is relatively easy. There's only a short bit of climbing. Really beautiful with the golden aspens this weekend. We also saw a moose on the drive in!

Lovely rainy day hike. Mostly forest until you cross the tree line. The wildflowers are spectacular right now! As someone else mentioned, the access to the road where the trailhead is indicated on this map is closed because of mine access. You'll need to veer right to the side/dirt road to get to the trail. This is the more moderate side of hard - there is a steady uphill portion before the tree line that will get your heart up, especially at such high altitude. The old mine ruins are super cool at the top. Definitely bring bug spray and sturdy shoes - there are a couple of small river/stream crossings.

This hike has it all - stunning views, wildflower meadows, shaded tree lined paths, and a lake. The first 1/2 mile is a challenging climb, the middle portion is mostly flat and easy, and the last 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile is another challenging climb, made more difficult due to the high altitude. I'd say this averages out to a moderate rating, but be prepared for the difficult incline in those parts.

Beautiful scenery the entire way and not too crowded. I'd rate this hike as easy - just need to have careful footing in areas where the trail is a little washed out. Word of caution - make sure you wear plenty of bug spray and are well covered. There were swarms of mosquitoes and despite wearing bug spray, we both got a lot of bites.

Beautiful views the entire way to the tea house. Not too difficult, but need to be careful crossing snowy spots.

We came up via the Highline Trail on our return from Plain of Six Glaciers. It was steep and got our hearts racing, but the view from the top was absolutely worth the climb
