Kelsey Molseed reviewed Little Lehigh Parkway Trail

For a city park, Lehigh parkway is as beautiful as it gets. Lots of good trails for walking, jogging, or biking, and a few hiking trails that go off into the woods as well. As a kid growing up in that area I used to bike from one end of the parkway-- near MLK Drive-- to the fish hatchery at the other end, and beyond that to the hidden bike park behind the nearby middle school. Could spend all day exploring this park and the areas around it

We camped here during a drive from North Carolina to Tennessee. It was a quick hike to the top, with beautiful views and no one else the whole night. It may or may not be haunted by the man whose bones are buried at the top (namesake of nearby Dead Man's Run), but we thought of him as a friendly ghost.

We stopped here during a drive from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. Beautiful area, though not a lot of room to explore.

An easy, pretty hike, but not a very well-known one. I did this one solo when I wanted some isolation, and I literally saw no one else on the whole loop. I'd like to come back with my dog and take her to the dog park nearby before we hike.

Peaceful and serene. It's like heading out to the mountains without actually having to drive to the mountains. This is my favorite place to jog in Winston. It's also fun (and rewarding) to bime the Greenway from downtown to the lake, even on my road bike. (I hear there are a lot of great mountain biking trails around the lake, too).

We like to bike from downtown to Salem Lake via the Greenway. A great way to spend the afternoon outdoors without having to drive to the mountains.

We backpacked this trail on Memorial Day weekend, which was a mistake because it was SO CROWDED. Still worth it, though. It was amazing to notice how the foliage changed with the elevation. The top reminded me of hiking in Maine. It was also a great feeling to emerge from the wooded trail in our hiking boots to see how many people had driven to the top. I think we impressed the drivers ;)
I'd love to go back when it's not a holiday weekend. You could do this whole thing in one day, if you get there early. If you're going to backpack (which I'd recommend instead of rushing it in one day), there's perfect camping on Commissary Hill, which is about 2/3 of the way to the top.

One of the most rewarding hikes I've ever done. It's a tough one (especially on a windy day! There were times when we considered going back because we felt like we were about to get blown off the mountain into the fog below) and we didn't even get to see the views because of the fog. That's mountain weather though--the forecast called for sunny clear skies! When we finished this hike, I felt proud. I highly recommend this for anyone in or around North Carolina, but only if you're at least somewhat experienced.

We usually hike out to Stone Mountain, then head back rather than doing the full loop. The part of the loop below the mountain is meh. If you're headed to Stone Mountain, I'd recommend the Wolf Rock/Cedar Rock Loop instead, plus maybe an out-and-back to the top of Stone Mountain.

We discovered this part of Stone Mountain when we arrived at our usual parking lot only to find it completely full! There was some sort of event going on. But we had driven an hour from Winston-Salem and were not about to go back, so we kept driving until we found another parking lot (also nearly full), then went up the trail and chose what appeared to be the lesser trafficked path that split off about a quarter-mile from the trail head. Wolf Rock did not disappoint! Fewer people, amazing views. We did a full loop and made it to Cedar Rock as well, explored the old abandoned buildings in the valley, and of course checked out the old homestead on the way back. We've gone back multiple times and we always take the Wolf Rock Trail, then loop back via Cedar Rock. Highly recommended.

Kelsey Molseed reviewed Ledge Spring, Jomeokee, and Sassafras Trails

I would describe this as "moderate" rather than "hard." Lots of diversity for such a small area. The parking area at the top is usually crowded, but take the Jomeokee Trail around the actual knob and you'll get some great, less trafficked views. This is probably the best hike within an hour of Winston-Salem

Kelsey Molseed reviewed Moores Knob Trail

One of Hanging Rock's lesser-known trails (and therefore lesser trafficked). Beautiful views, and lots of opportunity to climb all over the top of Moore's Knob
