Trails are well marked and defined. Multiuser trails for hikers, bikers & trail runners. Family friendly with a parking area at the trail head.

There are three main trails here; a 1-mile, 2-mile amd 5K. Each trail is marked with a different color badge, Blue, Green and Yellow. The trails are easy and a good place to take the whole family.
There are lots of information boards and kiosk, marking plants and trees and also some information about the area.
The main reason I don't rate this 5-stars... too much civilization in the area. Two main roads border the edges of the preserve, so road noise is distracting, The preserve also borders some housing neighborhoods and in areas you are looking into someones back yard.
No dogs are allowed in the preserve. In spite of the detractors, it's still a good overall place to take a hike and have family and friends join in.

Hiked the Little Smith Mountain Trail. This hike will not disappoint. Some of the best views of Lake Martin along this trail. Distance is about 3-miles with some narrow areas along the way. I would definitely rate this trail as moderate.
    Will certainly visit again.

Hiked the 3-mile north trail today. This section, in my opinion, has some of the best scenic views of all the Cherokee Ridge trails and some good natural features along the trail.
    One of my favorites!

A great place to get away for a little while. Highly recommend!

There are 5-trails here to suit a variety of needs for hiking, biking, and trail running.
    There is a 1-mile, 2.5-mile, 4-mile, 7-mile, & 11.2-mile trails.
We did the 4-mile trail today. The trek was very good. Trails are well defined and well marked. There are also some markers around the trail pointing out some of the different types of trees.
All in all, a good outing. We will definitely be back.

I'm in agreement that this trail is moderate. The first part of the trail is a back woods hike that is a pretty easy trek. As the trail gets closer to the lake, the terrain becomes a little more difficult and the natural rock formations start get interesting. Along the way there are some very good lake views. At times there are some difficult areas to maneuver around, all-in-all a great hike. The hike is 4-miles including walking to and from the parking area.

If you don't have them, I would recommend some trekking poles, these were very helpful in some of the steeper ups & downs in the trail.

The wife and I have been to this trail twice. The first time we hiked the 3.2 mile south loop. This time we hiked the 4.0 mile trail, which adds a portion to the 3.2 mile loop. The views of the lake are very good, with some interesting natural features. The trails are well marked and well defined.
At times it's challenging but overall agree with the moderate rating.
There is a nice picnic area at the parking lot with a great scenic view of Lake Martin.
    Well worth the time!
