Very difficult and seldom used hike. Starting point is at the far South-East end of Mueller Park so you will have a bit of a walk to get to the trail depending on where you park. I started recording when the pavement ended. First 0.4 mile is a dirt road, then the trail started. Until you hit the campsite I marked the trail wasn't overly difficult to follow. Every time I started to wonder if I was still on the trail I was able to find a plastic tie trail marker.
You have to cross the creek 13 times, in addition to crossing and using the tributaries (mud) as a trail often. There is also a section that is in and out of the creek and may get dangerous depending on the season. I was able to slowly pick my way through this section without getting too wet, but you should assume you will get wet on this hike.
The trail was pretty overgrown at times but once you pass the campsite it was closer to bushwhacking. Even with pants my shins are bruised from pushing through. I eventually turned back once I hit a large snow field that was deeper than I cared to work through and I had been having trouble locating the ties as well. The trail should continue about 1.5 more miles. I think I had gotten further but noticed my GPS stopped advancing at 2.75 miles.
I would recommend turning back at the campsite for about 5 miles RT.

Decent trail: A bit steep for some, and overgrown to the point of requiring pants after the first mile. The cabin at which most people end this hike is 2.4 miles in, making it 4.8 RT. The currently shown map listed at 9.5 RT is pretty inaccurate and I couldn't find a trail going west from the cabin. I followed the marked (plastic ties on trees) trail south-west for about 1 mile until I lost it along one of the streams feeding Mill Creek, south of Kenny.

Its about 2.5 more miles to add the north-east Big Baldy Summit and its no harder than the Dry Canyon Trail incline.
Also a great view point on the Little Baldy side for another .5 miles or so.

A few inches of snow and the trail is impossible to see after the Red Pines/Maybird fork. Only one person had been to the Maybird lakes since the last snowfall so I just followed their tracks. GPS did not match the trail.

Trail was easy to follow but doesn't follow the map exactly. I trekked out to South Big Mountain on the way back, but there isn't a trail to that summit.

This is not an easy trail. Medium for the first 4 miles, than hard for the remainder. The first mile is pretty ugly because you hike through a mess of atv trails. Once you have passed the gate it is better. Pretty right now with the leaves but I can see how some might not like it the rest of the year. There are a bunch if old cabins about 4 miles in and after them the trail gets tougher to follow. At 4.5 miles I couldn't see a trail and it was steep. The leaves may have been hiding the trail, but I don't think so. If you follow the GPS map you stop at the one opening which allows a good view of the valley.

Once you leave the BST this trail is STEEP. Sage and scrub oak are encroaching on the trail so pants are recommended. Up to the fork before the tin cabin the trail is easily followed and has orange ties periodically. Back on the main trail after the cabin the trail grows difficult to follow and the ties stop from what I could see but it should continue for about 1.5 more miles ending at the Great Western Trail.
