Love ESNP - today we did Hawks Ridge and Dogwood- when done together it's a 4 mile loop trail. Highly recommend ESNP to anyone, since there is a trail for everyone! We love ESNP! In fact, we are here weekly, and sometimes multiple times per week! Its always a nice hike and well maintained. Highly recommend for all skill levels!

Unfortunately the trail has not been maintained at all. There are numerous washouts, several widow maker trees that block the trail and frankly make parts of the trail unsafe, and the worst part of the trail is closer to the dam. A large tree blocks the trail, so you have to climb down the edge of the gorge to pass, but its basically a muddy, and almost impassible, cliff edge. I would not recommend this trail until some serious trail maintenance has been performed. It's sad to see just how dilapidated it has become, since this was the trail that made us fall in love with hiking and Chattanooga. Until some serious trail maintenance is performed, this trail should be rated as difficult. Definitely will be going back to this trail in the cooler months when there’s not as much foliage so we can take in all the beautiful waterfalls and views even more! There’s 4- that’s right, 4!?!- waterfalls and views galore. Plenty of coverage as it rained the entire hike and it was still magic. Saw a rat snake, but he didn’t give 2 hoots about us! Highly recommend this beautiful trail! Full review and more pics coming to our blog soon at
