Katrina Marie reviewed T Lake Falls Trail

I hiked all the way to the falls, and I'm glad I did. Like Brannon said, the abandoned trail was tricky to follow. It's overgrown, more so before you reach the glades, and you will have to wade through brush. You can make out what is left of the footpath if you pay attention, and there are a few ribbons and markers left. Once I reached the falls, I also tried to climb down and quickly decided against it. If you do go out onto the rocks at the falls, stay far away from the water and be very careful. Several people have died going over the falls. There are areas of deep mud along the entire trail so boots are a must.

Black Bear Mountain shares a parking area with Rocky Mountain trail. About 15 minutes in you come to a fork in the trail. There are two approaches to the summit: the left fork following the yellow markers is the longer, more gradual northern trail, and the right fork with blue markers is the shorter, steeper southern path. I followed the southern trail on the ascent and northern trail back. The southern trail has some extremely steep and rocky areas. The northern trail wasn't very exciting but may be easier with children or older people. Give yourself time to explore the interesting summit. Do along with Rocky Mountain trail for a nice half-day hike.

I loved this hike and I plan to go back when it's drier. My only issue was that I missed where the trail to the cliffs diverges from the main trail. It's not well marked and I continued for about a mile before I realized my mistake and turned around. A bit after you pass the lake on your left you'll come to a small snowmobile bridge followed by a second, larger bridge. Right before the second bridge, there is a small sign on the right hand side (it's well above eye level) with an arrow that says Good Luck Cliffs, next to another tree with a blue trail marker. The rest of the trail is unmarked but easy to follow.

Nice little hike that becomes rocky and steep as you approach the cliffs. There is some mud from the recent rain but nothing bad. The view from the cliffs is excellent, especially for the relatively low elevation.

This is a short but intense climb. Wear hiking boots--sneakers will not cut it. The trail is rocky and steep in places. I went after a few days of rain so the trail was also very wet. Some spots had deep mud, and areas of exposed rock were very slippery. The bugs were thick, especially during the first half of the climb, but they subside somewhat as you gain elevation. The fire tower is a must--the cab is closed but you get amazing panoramic views from halfway up. I'd suggest waiting for a spell of dry weather if you want to try this trail.
