Katelyn Barhite reviewed Woodhull Mountain Trail

Just wanted to add this here.. a little description for the added trail map with the trail highlighted in pink. MOST RECENT TRAIL MAP DESCRIPTION: the mileage after the point labeled parking is not accurate, it is 4.5 miles to the tower. but you can drive the 3 miles from mckeever lot to the area labeled "parking" in white box. the southern trail that is parallel to the pink trail and eventually connects DOES NOT EXIST ANYMORE. You can also drive most of the way to the lake lean-to. It is a 0.5 mile hike to the lean-to and there is also a second lean-to that can be looked up online for the specific location. Please do some research before heading to hike to this tower. It is a bit confusing.

Just completed this hike yesterday! I would really like to clear up some unclear details of this trail and firetower hike. From May-Nov there is a road from the mckeever road that you can drive for 3 miles (past the first parking area/registration box) to the junction entrance of remsen falls and the woodhull mtn trail. Park on the left before a stop barrier that is not open but you need to hike past to reach said junction. (2015 nat geo maps are no longer accurate for this trail.) This cuts off 6 miles of the total and makes for a 9 mile hike RT. The trail was a flat wide truck trail for more than 2 miles, definitely could bike this section and maybe a bit more. The last 2 or so miles to the tower was very gradual and enjoyable. The tower was not in the greatest condition and didn't feel super safe. The tower cab is locked and cannot be accessed. There is a nice campsite at the top also! Bisby road on the opposite side of the tower is not accessible and is private with a fence a ways up the road, so no access to the tower from there. This hike took us 4hrs. We carried packs with overnight gear but didn't end up staying. Bugs were overwhelming but trail was fairly dry. I would highly recommend this hike, views from just below the cab in the tower were great! Happy hiking!!
