this was confusing to follow on the trail. I took BPA Rd. along for a while before the trail split to firelands 13 and another direction. I took the other direction. Found AMAZING views of the Willamette but also a steep hill going down. Plan for a steep incline on the way back!!

if you hike up to the top there are fewer tourists. most people go to the lower falls for photo ops. we hiked the three miles up. ran into so few people even day after Christmas. It was cold by the falls but really not bad overall. nice places to stop and take pictures or enjoy company along the way.

My brother and I did this hike at 8am. The trip up was foggy. It was beautiful but not we envisioned. On the trip down the fog started to burn off. Lots more people on the trail even by 10am though so not peaceful when done later. The camping was great and simple. I would recommend doing the winding drive up to the campsite /trailhead in the daylight. Fun trip!!

Nice combination of paved trails throughout the campground. My brother and I hiked from a nearby neighborhood and walked into the campground. I wish there'd been a clearer route in for pedestrians (or at least signs stating how many miles it would be to the campground or water). We snagged the bike trail under a bridge and headed for the fort. We were able to wander around the fort for quite a bit before heading back. I think we walked about 7 or 8 miles that day. All relatively flat and smooth terrain (pavement).

I hiked this in June from the main road. I had a hard time finding the small post to head up the Skyline South Trail. There's just one post and a steep incline. The path heads pretty much vertical for the first few minutes of the trail. The terrain starts out with low-level trees and leaves. Lots of loose dirt and dry (at least in June). Then the terrain quickly shifted to rocky with holders to climb over. The trail eased up, but there were quite a few rocks to climb rather than typical hiking. I was quite tired when I reached the top at Eliot Tower. I then took the Skyline North trail back town. I landed at the main trailhead where there is a restroom. The facility smelled but was otherwise clean! I did a quick tick check and then headed for the car. I think in total this loop I did was 5+ miles (South Skyline to Eliot Tower and back to North Skyline).

I started this trail off the access parking lot off Bay Rd. I didn't realize that it would be a mile walk in to begin the trail. I wandered around the ponds, wishing I'd had a map to carry with. I continued in a loop around/between the pods, not realizing how far I'd gone. I did this hike one day after school. I managed to walk about 7 miles in just a few hours. This was a very flat hike (added several miles because of the additional loops I chose). There are very few inclines and this is much more of a stroll through a park. Nice though!

Kate Brown reviewed Marquam Trail to Council Crest Hike

Council Crest is the textbook urban hike. It's exactly what you'd expect from a hike in the heart of Portland. The trail starts at a nice trailhead with a canopy for lacing up. Then the trail takes off at a steep pace for the first several minutes. The trail cuts back and forth, winding through the Council Crest neighborhood and streets. The top is rewarding with a nice view of Portland at the top. Restrooms are unavailable (that I could tell) and there wasn't any water. It wasn't a big deal, but I would recommend using the porta-potty at the start of the trail before taking off! The sign about bathrooms up ahead wasn't true. No big deal though. Great, great urban hike!

This was a really good trail with steep elevation gains in the beginning (from Germantown Rd entrance). The trail was a bit soggy in certain parts of Wildwood Trail. The final stretch along the road is a bit tricky. Make sure to wear bright colors so when you're walking back up Germantown Rd you're highly visible to traffic.
