Kate Arnold reviewed Meadowlark Plymouth Creek and Plymouth Mountain Trail Loop

My son and I started hiking this around 9:30 am on Thursday (two days ago). Beautiful fall”ish” weather. Skipped the Meadowlark portion of the upper loop. Took a hard fall descending the rocky portion. Turned my ankle on a loose rock. Was descending at a fast pace. So... my fault really. Lovely close in trail, but quiet and feels farther out. Found some wild raspberries right along the side of the trail. Delicious! Our hike was 5.3 miles. Will definitely do this one again!

This was an interesting hike for sure. We went clockwise so it was easy going down on the first half. I loved the shade, ruggedness and adventure on one hand, but on the other hand, the trees across the trail, lack of trail markings and some hazardous conditions on the rocky incline coming back up had me thinking that I sure hoped no one would fall and get hurt. Part of the incline was very narrow with quite a drop. It would be much better suited for a mountain goat. :) I would not bring little ones on this one. This is a Denver county trail and the worst kept I’ve been on all summer. Lots of dead trees in the forest, a few across the trail and small stumps were not removed. My son and I have been going once a week, though I am new to AllTrails. Met 3 ladies on the trail who were lost. I had been on this trail a few years ago, before the very narrow “bridges” were installed for when there’s high water. So I remembered that the trail seemed to be lost at times when there was no dirt trail, just huge kind of flat boulders to scramble across. We helped them maneuver through since there are no signs for direction. This one let me know I want to sign up for Pro before heading out again. All that said, it’s a beautiful trail, shaded from heat, lovely along the creek and you definitely get to experience nature close in to Denver.

Great hike! All different kinds of terrain. My son and I went clockwise, which takes you up the steep rocks and stairs. The creek was more like a rushing river as the snow melt has added quite a lot of water. Big wide sturdy bridges over the water, so no problem. Love the sound of rushing water! The trailmaps say 7.9 miles, not 7.3 as this site says. Definitely be fueled up, bring snacks and a little extra water. One of my favorite hikes of the summer so far!
