Seth Warner reviewed Honey Cove Trail Loop to Spruce Flats Falls

The trail depicted on the map is incorrect, this is not a loop and Lumber Ridge does not go to Spruce falls (which is technically not a trail, but is still easy and okay to navigate to the falls -- heavily trafficked).

Lumber Ridge ends at Meigs (which is a fork) and is where you need to turn around and go back.

When you park in the parking lot, the trail heads' start up near the sign and gravel road,to the right when you are pulling in the parking lot / coming over the bridge.

Lumber ridge has a few party nice views itself but if you are coming for the falls (as I did) take the trail at the trail head that indicates the falls are to the right -- which is only a mile, maybe that.

    Have fun!

Made it all the way to the Lodge. What a great hike, had more unexpected attractions than anticipated.

    Tips

    * If you want to go to the lodge, make sure you have warm clothing for when you are on top of the mountain -- it is cold enough up there that there is frost on the flora in fall.

    * Make sure you have plenty of support and comfort in your shoes and socks (varies from person to person of course), it is a long, flat trail with rocky steep stairways along the route.

    * Bring plenty of water and food, once again, this is a good day hike, but you can definitely do it in a day (depending on your age and health).

A peaceful creek bed, mangrove like bushes along the path in the beginning and plenty of "sprucey" views to supplement your appetite for as to why you're out there in the first place.

    Enjoy!

Btw: The lodge is more of a small town, they have a sit down fire place area inside, kitchen, restrooms and much more!

The most common sentence heard amongst the trail is "how much farther is it?". Plenty of wild life along the way (came face to face with a black bear when I whipped around a turn) and the waterfall has plenty of space around it for you to have your own little section to rest.

Be aware that once you reach the wide opening with the largest group of people resting that you have seen, odds are you are at the top -- the sign is a bit hidden that lets you know you are at the top. Unless you want to hike an additional 5 miles to what is described as a lake, make sure you know when to stop.

P.S. Don't wear sandals, however it is not bad at all coming down!

Taking this really nice brand-new board walk through the mid tree lining and out into the open African Savannah feeling environment was quite stunning. Nothing between you and some good American neighborly alligators below but an inch or so of boardwalk plus a couple feet of oxygen.

Its been awhile since I've been here but it is for surely a pretty nice day hike in castled and if you continue along the river up zombie road its really meant for off-road MT.Biking at that point. But during summer its really nice to walk along the river side ( feels like your in the middle of some random farm land somewhere and your childhood imagination tends to take over at this point).
