Excellent. Even on a hot day w/o any canopy. Went down Emerald Cyn Rd & up Old Emerald Falls Trail, got lost and went down Moro Ridge Rd rather than go back up to Bommer as I had intended. Was still worth it and what a run. FYI, Old Emerald Falls needs a lot of manicuring(workers were out today doing that) plus a lot of cactuses right up on the edge of this single track. Definitely do not want to MTB this trail as one will definitely end up with many a spike in their legs.

Did a couple variations of this & adjacent trails in the past week. Laurel & Lizard Tail have quite a bit of canopy which is rare in O.C. Was a welcome challenge. Has decent elevation gains.

Absolutely no canopy/shade on this trail, which is not uncommon in O.C. Fairly strenuous elevation gain/loss. Deer Canyon loop on the Crystal Cove Park side is the easiest loop. One can opt for the longer/harder loops, e.g. Rattlesnake loop, Moro Canyon. Its rating of difficult/hard is inaccurate. For a beginner perhaps but for one who trailruns/hikes regularly this should be moderate at worst.

Falls Trail starts at the nature center located at the upper lot ending at the waterfall. Total distance ~1.5 miles RT. Was very crowded on the Saturday we went. Could be nice except for the lowlives & their spawn who run around throwing rocks and sticks. Paid $6 to park at the lower lot adjacent to the ranger station. Most people park down in the residential area or park in the aforementioned lot and ignore the pay to park signs.

Went on a foggy, rainy day. Had waited a year to do this hike and the weather would not cooperate. The elevation climb on Bomb Voyage is a welcome challenge. Once you pass the Muffins it flattens out but you can lose sight of the trail at times. There are a couple picnic tables at Blue Diamond hill where I assume the view is fantastic. There are a lot of loose sharp rocks on this trail which I frequently kicked up into my own ankles. Painful. Use boots if you have them, or hightop trail runners. Due to the fog I wasn't able to enjoy the LV view. Perhaps next year. I uploaded GPX in 2 parts, split by my rest break at the picnic tables.

One of my local faves. Variety of trails makes for many combinations of different trail runs. Seems like too many trails for a newbie but once your familiar with it you realize there's always something new to keep your run fresh. The lower, easy trails have a lot of coverage. The harder trails are all out in the open which is the only drawback. Some of the moderate trails have portions that should be labeled hard and vice versa, e.g. Peralta Hills trail should be hard and Oak Trail moderate. Parking can be tough on weekends when they rent out the facilities for weddings and other events. $3weekdays/$5weekends

Makes for a very well shaded trail in the shape of a U on the perimeter of Clark park. There really isn't a trail along Rosecrans avenue although one can make up their own trail. The "U" measures at ~1.6 miles. Hit it 5x, 8 mile run and done. Not bad especially for locals who can walk to the trail.

Usually start near Ralph B Clark Park taking the Castlewood trail to Nora Kuttner. There and back is roughly 4.5 miles. Some mild hills, nothing too strenuous. Makes for a good run. Parking is much better by Clark park on Rosecrans ave. Access Castlewood trail just east of the firehouse. Eazy Peazy.

Tends to be crowded even during the week. Mild up & down trail especially the east ridge view portion which can be challenging to some. The lower portion(peters cyn trail) is relatively flat offering little challenge but has a decent portion of it canopied. The big hill which some locals call the MF'ing hill is a great challenge. I hit it twice for an added workout.

I've run Powder Canyon regularly for the past 2 years. This is designated as easy but that is not the case. Relative to other trail rankings this would be moderate to demanding(if running). Mixed fire road and single track. Can get a bit crowded on weekends. Pretty tame on weekdays. Nice views both north and southward. A fair amount of canopy/shade on Schabarum and extended Schabarum trails on this particular route. Numerous adjacent trails making for a good variety.

To call this a trail is disingenuous. It is a cross connector between two longer/larger trails. Akin to calling an interchange a freeway. Or even an on/off-ramp.
