Julie Lavender reviewed Weaver Lake Trail

Beautiful hike ! The lake is worth every bit of effort. The temperature of the water was perfect. I went Sunday. There were maybe five people at the lake at once.... But mostly I had it all to myself. I'd recommend going on a day other than Friday or Saturday. This also seems to be a hike people do later in the day. I got to the lake around noon or so. Be careful in the water. The rocks are jagged and the sediment can be deceiving. You think your stepping on solid ground but then your foot will slide down three feet between two rocks. I just kept my feet off the ground and swam ;)

You have the option of completing this loop by taking either the homestead route or blueridge route. Blueridge is just as it says, strenuous. It's a lot of steep elevation increase. There's also very little shade going this direction. That said, it was worth the extra effort to take blueridge as exiting the trail on homestead gave me plenty of shade, access to the river, and a gentle decent. Which was perfect since I was ready for it by the time I got there. If you plan to descend the blueridge side, be aware it's going to be taxing on your knees. This trail was absolutely beautiful. So worth every last ounce of effort to complete the whole loop. So much to look at and enjoy. I passed about three or four small groups of people on this hike. Very lightly trafficed. Also a huge plus.
