This trail was great! It was an easing trail to walk and navigate. There were plenty of signs along the way, making it easy to stay on the trail. We chose to do this trail on our first day because it gave us a chance to really understand the layout and location of other trails.

The trail was mostly paved with parts that were more "natural". The parts of the trail closer to lookout points were more heavily trafficked, but as you went away from the lookout points it became less so.

I used my gps watch along the route to help us keep track of distance and time. Overall it took us about 6 1/2 hours to walk approximately 15 miles. We stopped and took a lot of photos on the way and sat on benches to enjoy the scenic views. The length of the trail really just depends on where you start. We took a bus shuttle back from Hermits point (where the Rim Trail ends and the Hermit Trail begins).

As for gear wearing normal sneakers is definitely fine for this trail. Having water is a must as it was warm. (July). There are a few water refills along the route.

    Overall great trail! ⛰
