The views here are like a movie. Greatest campsite I ever had was right on the bank of this lake. Water was Chrystal clear. Lake was completely still when we were there. Reflections of the mountains were so clear you couldn't distinguish between mountains and mountain reflection. Great backpacking trip for a beginner. Very family friendly.

They rate this trail as "hard". That's a F$!#ing understatement. If you are a beginner mountain biker you are going to walk. A ton. This trail is beautiful but extremely technical. There are huge panoramas the entire day. Do you enjoy carrying your bike up 400 foot hills covered in loose rock? I hope so because you will get your chance. I set out to do the entire Kokopelli but cashed in my chips after this leg. The campsite at Westwater is very primitive, but AMAZING!!!!

Yep. Trail is beautiful. Trail is remote. We almost died on this trail. Rangers suggest taking a gallon per person. That advice is no sh!t. Water water water. Saw a bear. Saw a gigantic snake in the Rio Grande. Experienced hurricane force winds during an epic electrical storm. None of this was enjoyable due to the fact we ran out of water in the first 6 hours of our hike and 2 of our team members had to go get water. They got lost. We thought they were dead. We linked up the next day. Had to go on another water mission. We eventually succeeded but not without drama and issues. On our way out we got caught in a huge storm with winds so strong we couldn't walk DOWN a mountain. Will probably never do it again because of its remote location, but every year we talk about it. Looking for an adventure? This might be the trail for you!

One of my favorite trails on earth. Start from Elephant Canyon parking lot. Get there early so you can park! This trail is around 11 miles round trip and the terrain is pretty rugged at times. You will feel it when you are done, but the variety of desert landscapes you experience are well worth the pain. The open panoramas of Chesler, the mushroom rock formations in Elephant Canyon, the dark narrow path within the joint trail, the ascent into Chesler and all those colorful needles against the bright blue sky make this trail a must see.
