The trail to the first very picturesque waterfall in the canyon is only a few hundred yards and will take only 10 minutes to reach the falls. Following the trail to Tripple Falls and the upper falls is very sketchy is several areas as it has been washed away. At the trailhead the sign says "Triple Falls 1.3 miles" after hiking for an hour you will come across another sign that also says "Triple Falls 1.3 miles"...

We hiked about 8 or 9 miles in and we camped beside Square Top Mountain. the views were incredible! the mosquitos were horrible, and resistant to every kind of bug spray! If I hike this again, I will pack a few citronella candles, they would be worth the added weight. The beginning of the trail is tricky to locate, we thought it followed the lake edge at the beginning, there is a trail there, but it quickly turns into mountaineering on a briar covered cliff face. When you get to the lakes edge, before the woods starts and a small creek is flowing downhill, look up to the right. The trail is a hundred or so yards uphill and where it enters the woods. On our way out, we stopped a couple groups from repeating our mistake.

There is fresh evidence of a bear living in the mine shaft above the mine tailings. I came across the mine while on a stroll. I got about halfway back armed with only a cell phone flashlight and a plastic poop shovel before realizing the situation... There is a mine shaft as soon as the Tull Canyon trail breaches off to the left. Plenty of camping spots around the old mining area. Don't forget to check out Tull Canyon! Also, if you have time after seeing up camp, a hike to Marmot Pass would take you 3 hours or so and it is breathtaking! No water after you leave the mining area though..

Beautiful beach, it's only 2 miles to beach, but the arches are maybe 3 more miles of slow beach walking. camp about a mile down the beach and you will get 4G LTE with Verizon. The closer you get to the Point of Arches, the better cell reception gets. Rangers constantly patrol the beach so bring a bear canister as it is required. The only permit you will need Is the Makah recreation pass that costs $10 for a year, you can purchase this at the marina in Neah Bay. Overnight parking is not allowed at the trailhead, but there is a trailer on your left a half mile before the trailhead. Drop your packs off at the trailhead then send someone back to park the car. Park your car at the trailer where they have a "front lawn" parking lot for $10 a day per car. A mailbox with envelopes and instructions is located on the left (porch side) of the trailer. Bathrooms at the trailhead as well as along the trail are in rough shape. I suggest packing a shovel and extra TP.

Beautiful hike, the tail to the glacier side of the lake is overgrown with nettles halfway so bring a machete if you want to reach the glacier. Take the upper trail back to the trailhead to see several beautiful waterfalls!

All ice had melted from the lake, Virgin Lake is still partially frozen though. There is a lot of snow at the top of the mountain around Virgin Lake so sections of the trail are hidden still. It was a beautiful hike!
