The hike is easy and the trail is very clean and obvious. Was hoping for something a bit more challenging. You can't walk around the "castle" or anything, so don't get your hopes up. Not a bad hike for families, I just had different expectations based off of some of the pictures.

Just went on this within the last month and had an amazing time. There was still snow everywhere, which led to us getting a bit off trail and going to a higher point just to the right of Dream Lake. I recommend continuing to Emerald Lake, it's well worth it!

It was an ok walk. It was built up by friends who recommended it. At the end of 6 miles there's the dam, and that's about it. Nothing too spectacular. That and it being an in and out trail with not a whole lot to see either way, I'd spend your time on other trails in the mountains, unless you don't have the time to drive an extra 30 minutes.

Hikes that are this short and still offer as amazing views as this one are rare. This isn't my favorite hike in RMNP, but this is definitely one I will end up bringing the most visitors to due to how short and easy it is. There is a good uphill portion in the beginning with a bunch of switchbacks that we saw wearing down the older or less fit people, but there are plenty of places to stop and rest, plus once you get to the top it is 100% worth it. There's really two trails around the lake, one that stays a few hundred feet away in an outer circle, and then the inner circle that runs right along the water. Easily did the whole thing in two hours, and that included a solid 30 minutes for lunch.

The beginning of this hike will definitely kick your butt if you are not used to the altitude. It starts off with a steep incline on the first couple of switchbacks, but then gets a bit easier. Be sure to take plenty of breaks in the beginning, as you end up climbing over 1000ft so you'll want to save your breath. There was a good number of old buildings and remnants of the mining structures. These were really cool to explore and take pictures of. We came across a couple old mine shafts that were unfortunately (yet understandably) sealed shut. They would have been fun to explore, but also would have been very dangerous. Once you get to the top and are a couple hundred feet from the memorial (it will be to your left) you can go right and explore more towards the waterfall you can see from the memorial. This led us to more old mining equipment and another sealed mine (it is visible from the memorial and looks like a cave). The views the whole way are great, we loved getting higher and higher and seeing Silver Plume get smaller and smaller. The aspens are starting to turn, which offered some very colorful sights.
