A great hike on the way down to Florida. Covered the trail in an hour with stops. Had to use a stick to clear spiderwebs but it was a weekend. Really cool elevation changes and more than enough for a return trip.

Basically climbing rocks as steps right to the top. Hiked this early in the morning covered in fog and it was amazing. The wind was insane at the top. Great aerobic workout.

Simple trail but well-maintained and beautiful throughout. Mostly following the water except for the climb/descent on the ridge. Lots of traffic but plenty of room.

Paved throughout, so leave the hiking boots behind. A nice view and a cool tower at the end, but bugs kind of everywhere (early April). Worth a stop for the views, not so much the hiking.

A surprisingly-great loop with a tunnel, a stream, a lake (or lake bed, depending on the water), and spurs to campsites. Perfect small outing hike that’ll get your heart racing. Best in the AM, a lot of the trail is shaded on the way down (counterclockwise). The elevation spike on the map is totally bogus (you’re in the tunnel, not climbing over the mountain), but the trail does still feature quite a bit of elevation change.

Kind of a bizarre trail that leads nowhere and is definitely longer than the map indicates. I’d pass.

No view, but I’ll take the privacy and quiet over a view any day. The trail is beautiful and reminded me of the nature trail around Mount Mitchell. Bright green lichen and thick forest with plenty of elevation change to make it a good exercise loop. Sucks that it’s kind of out of the way, but if you’re in the area I highly recommend it.

A great trail to do on a weekday or bad weather to cut down on the crowd (it’s popular). Pretty standard hill climb, and a nice one at that!

A really nice quiet flat walk, if you’re into that. Otherwise pretty bland. A bit confusing, as others have said the longer loop is ambiguously closed. Was flooded during my walk, had to turn around.

It’s a bit out of the way, but on a sunny day this trail is probably my favorite so far in the Blue Ridge. I prefer counterclockwise (the fields and views seem like a nice goal for the backwoods climb). The cows are always a treat.

Nothing special on this trail. It’s the same concept as Rich Mountain and the other Cone trails but overgrown, unkept, and to nowhere. No significant views, no interesting features. About all I could see it being used for is horseback riding or extended your hike just for the sake of mileage.

    Combine with Cascades for sure.

Did this just after 5pm and was pleasantly surprised at the mixture of woods and meadows. The woods portions were kind of boring so we skipped the steeper section of the loop and walked back to the trailhead parking on the gravel road that connects to the Music Center parking.

Wide trail, great access to the waterfalls. Make sure to check out the covered bridge!
