John Johnson reviewed Coralville Reservoir - Linder And Squire Points

I loved this trail for this area of northeast Iowa. If offers a variety of trail lengths and intensities for all hiking skill levels. The trails are woven in and out of the hills and crevices all around the Lake reservoir.

I day hiked a new location today in Clarksville, Iowa with our black lab Autumn, our youngest son's yellow lab Daisy, and my brother's jack russell terrier O'Hanna. I saw a lot of wildlife on this trek. My hands were full, and I must say if the "yellow Child" hadn't have bolted-off in high speed pursuit after a startled white tail deer for 15 min, three separate times, the hike would have been a little less frustrating... But that's a young labs job now isn't it?...:) This is a good local trail for all day hike skill levels. The park offers a campground with water and electric services, as well as tent camping, but does not offer any "modern" bath/shower houses or restrooms. Both a hard surface bike and jogging trail and dirt hiking trails are available. The trailhead starts out right at the campground park parallel to the hard surface bike trail and then the dirt hiking trail veers off towards the Shell Rock river, and for the most part follows the river until it gets about 1/2 way around the loop then heads back to the park near the hard surface rail trail.

    John Johnson reviewed Wailua Falls

Wailua Falls, just north of Lihue, is a step off the beaten path. Located at the south end of the Wailua River, it cascades into two streams, dropping 80-feet below. Like other spectacular spots on Kauai used as film locations, Wailua Falls is most recognized in the opening credits of the long-running television show "Fantasy Island." Easily accessible, by car, Wailua Falls can be seen from the roadside, so you can leave your hiking boots behind, but if you cant resist the amazing Bucket-List waterfall experience be prepared to hike down the cliff trail located to the far right of the look-out spot. Start by walking back on the road for about 50 yards, then jump the guard rail and look for the trail head, the trail is very steep and demanding, with large roots, rocks, and mud nearly all the time due to the swimmers trekking back up the trail. Parts of the trail are so steep the locals have attached a rope to hold on to and descending with for the second half of your trek down to the lagoon.
