Great hike. Very few people. I think hiking shoes would overall be better than sneakers like I wore. This would be good early morning hike. Counter clockwise is definitely more of a challenge than clockwise.

Great arizona views. I would rate this as moderate though due to the elevation is up and down so the reflected total gain is misleading as i bet it's 4 times that. Did this with my Nike sneakers and did fine.

Hiked this March 1st. The last mile is pretty rough for my first hike of the season. The payout at the top on a clear sunny day made it so worth it. The metal chain link on the last part of the trail was really helpful. Hit the trailhead at 8am, two cars and by the time we got back, lot was full. Go early!! You won't regret it.

Hiked today, first half is the hardest, the view is great, hit trailhead at 7am and parking lot almost full. Super busy trail. Sneakers will get you up this just fine.

Hiked it yesterday, easy to find trailhead, hit the trail early so only people seen were on the way back. Most of elevation gain is the last 1/2 mile up to the lake. Recommend going later in the day so the sun is hitting all spots on the lake as there are limited places to sit so I sat in the shade. Great hike for dogs. A couple spots make trail identification a little hazy, but easy enough to locate once you look for a couple minutes. I took lower Elliot both to and from the lake and it was beautiful. There were bugs but completely tolerable, I have been on hikes much, much worse in this regard. At this time of the year, trail is pretty decent, only a few muddy spots and rocky areas over streams and old creek beds.

The second half of the trail is very rocky and steep but the reward at the top is worth it. There is a lookout tower at the top and a rock stack you can climb if you dare. I took my dog and he did great, no an ounce of snow on the trail and only a couple mild watery/muddy areas but can be easily jumped over or walked around to avoid wet feet. The view is truly panoramic :)

Great hike, you really need adequate snow gear though to get to the top for safety reasons, the view is completely worth it though. :)

Today was a great day for a hike up there. Majority of the lake is still frozen however, I hear it is even more beautiful in the summer time. The first half of the trail is pretty easy, there is a mile that is a bunch of switchbacks with stairs that can be rough depending on how in shape you are then the last mile or a lil less isn't bad. If you go before snow melts on the last half mile of trail, ensure you have waterproof shoes on and gators or something as pants and shoes get wet from the melting snow that you have to go through. Overall the scenery is amazing both along the trail and at lake serene.

Great hike, I did an overnight hike and to hike to camp and back out the next day was around 14 miles. Moderate difficulty, some areas easier then others, the hard part for some is the distance. Beautiful scenery, peaceful, there are several places along the way to stop and site see :) I like this hike in the early fall due to the changing colors all over the place.
