Perhaps this trail is more interesting by bike. Or when the wildflowers are out. Today was disappointing and really just a walk in the woods. Barely even a glimpse of the amazing autumn colors on display further up the road. One positive: a decent enough work out on the way back up.

2 hours hard uphill to get to the mid point between Deception and Lake. At this point the 'Knife Edge' (and difficult rock scrambling) was a little too much for my acrophobia. I returned down the steep ski path/road beginning to the left of the nearest ski lift, to complete in just over 3 hours. The summit is insane, it really did feel like the top of the world.

Started out at 10.30 on Monday morning, didn't see another person all the way up - had the entire Mesa to myself. Breathtaking.

A short, pleasant hike but no grand views.

Two peaks for the price of one! Simply stunning. Allow about 3 hours.

Incredible views, some of the best I’ve ever seen. Road up was a bit of a test for my small hire car, at the top it gets a bit rough.

Lots of snow, some deep. No trail to follow, not advisable.

Trail to the lookout is closed. You can walk up the road from Discovery Point about 2 miles...but only to the lower viewpoint. Call ahead.

I climbed Tumalo today. It was definitely a challenge. No path to follow as completely snowed under, and mostly in the trees with no sight navigation. Just snow and trees and snow....Obviously it’s possible and to have the summit to myself was spectacular. But not for the casual hiker, not yet!

I ignored a ‘trail closed’ sign and got about 2/3rds of the way up....relatively easy so far. But then there was a snow covered, steep drop off traverse. It required care and attention and definitely not safe for all. The rangers were already here and turned me back. Apparently someone had fallen here and was ok but was being rescued. There was no info on the website about the trail being closed/difficult. So expect that the trail might still be closed. You could call and ask but there does seem to be some confusion at the park i.e. the guy that fell was apparently sold snow shoes and told it was ok to go up.....

June 4 - Goodman Creek Road still blocked by trees/mudslide. So headed to Hardesty trailhead (just round the corner but directly off the 58 Highway), and walked a different route, but possible to walk to Eagles from there...just further to go of course.

My understanding is that the road is now open. I walked the long way round (12 miles from Hardesty trailhead) and, just below the summit, met two gents who had just walked up about a mile from their car. What an amazing vista, a beautiful day and the panoroma full of the highest Cascade peaks. Simply stunning. Go, now!

Magical. From the campsite car park thru rhododendron blooms, into encapsulating scrub, emerging to giant dunes and the sound of crashing waves. A long walk along a golden, wind-swept and completely empty beach before returning thru a simply stunning forest. 6 miles of heaven. My dog loved it too.
