First and foremost, the location of the trail head is very wrong on All trails as of 7/5/16. Visit http://www.justtrails.com/trails/rock-creek-trail/ for a much more accurate trail head description and trail information. I did submit an update to All Trails, but make sure you verify where the trail is. All Trails also is only showing about 3 miles of an 11.1 mile trail.

That being said, this is a fantastic backpacking trail. There are several well used camping sites along it, and it isn't overly trafficked. On July 4th weekend I met 8 other hikers over a span of 24 hours.

You do have to traverse several rock slides, and if you are going to bring a dog, you might consider boots for their feet. I learned that the hard way with a torn paw on my dog's foot.

There is a lot of bear and moose sign in the area, but I didn't see either animal in my trek. The trail follows Rock Creek and offers stunning vistas and quiet forest paths to lead the way.

A fairly easy, family friendly hike. We hiked in and did a loop with another trail. We found a nice clearing and camped overnight. Easy to find trail head and a well marked trail.

A great family trail. It is moderately trafficked. Very easy to access from I-80. The trail is in great shape right now.

Had the opportunity to hike this trail on a Saturday around mid-day. There still is a lot of snow on the trail, some of it is well packed, other parts you find yourself struggling through it a bit. We only made it about 3.5 miles in before the snow got deeper than we were willing to deal with. It was a very enjoyable hike. It really would be good with kids as it is not steep at all. The dogs enjoyed it and there is plenty of water along the way as well.

The trail is fairly well marked, unless you try to take the cliff portion of the trail first, at that point a couple of side trails break off and cause confusion. The trail in general is easy to navigate, VERY heavily trafficked with a lot of people with dogs. Apparently most of these people thing the trail head is a depository for their poo bags. Why would you pick up your dogs poo, put it in a bag, and then leave the bag behind at the trail head? I packed in and camped on top of a hill between two gorges. All in all a great first backpacking experience of the summer. You are never really more than a mile from the trail head, but not many people overnighted, so after sun down it was quite peaceful

An absolutely beautiful hike. I started on a Friday night and stopped to camp for the evening just before the Holy Cross Wilderness boundary. The next morning I continued the trip to Lake Charles. It get quite steep at about mile 4, but nothing dangerous, and nothing overly rigorous. There are multiple places to camp near Lake Charles, and when I was there I only saw a handful of people, maybe 10 at the most. The alpine lakes are just breathtaking at all hours of the day. I will definitely do this hike again. The hike back was much easier and I made excellent time, leaving the campsite at 8:30 and arriving back at my car before 11 am.
