First things first: This is Grizzly country. We saw a few tracks on the trail on the way in and then saw a sow and her cub on the trail on the way out. They were facing away from us, so we diverted off trail to give them a wide berth. It all worked out ok, but we were well prepared. Be advised. Secondly, bring LOTS of bug spray. They are tons of mosquitos. They congregate around the marshy areas of course, so this may be better later in the season as things dry out.

The trail itself runs through sweeping alpine meadows and pine forests. Lots of opportunities for backpacking and camping. The trail remains between 9400-9600 feet and it's easy to forget your are hiking across the tops of mountains as it seems to be rolling hills and fields. Lots of small lakes and streams, so there is plenty of water around.

All in all, a fun hike and we may go back to backpack later in the year. We have driven by this area many times and always wanted to explore it. Well worth the effort.

Quite possibly the most beautiful drive in America. Breathtaking views, lots of wildlife. There are multiple camp sites and trails along the way. Most of the drive is in bear country, so make sure you come prepared if you decide to go off on foot.

Beautiful waterfall, especially in late spring/early summer when the snow melt is high. Very easy trail, well worth the drive.

From the trailhead sign to the waterfall overlook, it is 1 mile. Although the trail terminates at the overlook, it is possible to climb up to the top of the falls. There is no trial, so this would be climbing the rocks and such. Wear appropriate shoes.

Beautiful and steady climb from the trailhead to Lost Lake. There are several side trips worth the visit like Silver Run Falls. (It's about a mile in on the left up the slope. You can climb in behind the waterfall-see pics.) Also Broadwater Lake (it's actually just a wide spot in Rock Creek) is a great stopping point as well. Lost Lake does get a bit of traffic and evidence of campers is noticeable. Please practice leaving no trace.

Nice walk around the lake with scenic views. Great place to picnic with the fam. Kids had fun. It is very busy on the weekends.

Fun bike trail along the Rims and very close to Billings so it's easy to get to. Great views of the valley.

Absolutely beautiful hike. We backpacked up to the Meadows the weekend of June 24-25, 2017 to use as a base camp for exploring and fishing. The trail is stunning. Multiple waterfalls as the trail close follows Rock Creek with multiple water sources enroute. A creek divides the Meadows, so there is a constant supply of water available (we use the Grayl Ultralight to filter water - they are awesome and don't break the bank). The trail has a good bit of traffic and quite a few people came up to the Meadows on day hikes, but only a few stayed the night. The Meadows are so big though, we didn't really see anyone much. We brought our Beagle who thought she had died and went to Dog Heaven!

The trailhead begins just a few yards above the parking area and is a gradual ascent all the way to Quinnepaugh; my GPS reported a total 1200-foot climb over the five-mile hike from the parking area. There are only a couple areas with switchbacks, the largest at Sentinel Falls, but it is short in duration. Overall, it isn't a difficult hike. (I think some of the reviews below are misposted or the person was hiking a different trail.)

Paved trail with great close-ups of the mountain. Very easy and family friendly. Kind of a must-see if you are visiting Rushmore.
