Jessica Watson reviewed Coot Peninsula Loop

This is a nice trail. My Fitbit put it closer to 5 miles. There is a steep hill that will get your heart rate up. Beautiful views of the water throughout. A little muddy is some areas after the rain but nothing some good sneakers or trail shoes can’t handle. I would definitely do this hike again. Curious how it looks in autumn.

Jessica Watson reviewed Calvert Cliffs Red and Orange Loop Trail

Great trail. I took the red out to the cliffs (they say walking out where the cliffs are is off limits this time of year, but I took that more as a suggestion). Red trail is nice and easy hike offering great water views.

After leaving the cliffs I took the orange trail. It’s also nice and heavily wooded with good inclines. Note, some parts are muddy; you can get through them but I recommend hiking shoes over sneakers for better footing.

Note, towards the end, the map shows that the orange trail continues towards the left of the service road that leads to the parking lot. But really it’s the service road that takes you back.

I’d definitely do this trail again. I went early so it wasn’t crowded.

This is a nice trail. We didn’t complete the full loop we took a wrong turn and ended up on another trail and then doubled back. Could’ve been all the snow, but nonetheless the trail was still quite serene. Would love to try it again in spring or summer time.

Hiked this trail with a friend. I have it clocked at closer to 5.75 miles than 4.1 according to the Fitbit. Beautiful views of the water, plenty of places to stop for photos and walk out on the rocks. The Lost Pond Loop is very nice (we didn’t see an actual pond) and takes you deeper into the woods. Note, the second half of the Lost Pond Loop is overgrown, and single person only. Lots of sticky plants so be careful. Also note there are several stream crossings on this trail. Overall we still really enjoyed the trail. Hiked in autumn with beautiful changing leaves.

Great trail with lovely mountains views and a steady incline. Not a lot of shade so morning hikes are better on hot days. Wild flowers, chipmunks, butterflies and more. Trail is really rocky at times. We started our trek by walking the path on the right; we got halfway through the trail then decided to turn around; couldn't chance some of the larger animal tracks we saw on the trail. They weren't kidding about "light traffic."

Parking lot was a little concerning; lots of empty shells from target shooting and broken glass everywhere. We just parked on the side of the road instead. Apparently this trail is also good for Quartz crystals. We met a bunch of seekers on our way back down.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this trail and I ended up being pleasantly surprised. The way in goes behind some apartment buildings and under a bridge, but once you get past that you're surrounded by nature. There's a nice stream, trees, rocks, an open field, wild flowers and more. We saw deer, tons of butterflies, cool insects and cardinals. The trail really takes you through some different scenes. We extended our hike a couple miles by just doing the marked loops and turn offs. It's a nice trail and very light traffic. I'd love to see it in autumn with the changing leaves.

(This review has trail condition updates) This is a 3.5 for me. Very scenic trail, lightly trekked so you won't run into a lot of hikers. Great for bird watching, butterflies and dragonflies. Lovely wild flowers and water lilies too.

Overgrown on some parts of the trail, so I would recommend wearing bug repellent on your ankles and depending on skin sensitivity maybe favor longer pants for this trail. A walking stick will help with clearing spider webs too. ALERT: Bridge that crosses over water is closed. You can attempt to cross the water over some rocks just before you reach the bridge. But, it's like 12+ rock hops, not the usual 4-5 that you'd find on a trail. Because the rocks were slippery I headed back the way I came. Also it's worth it to grab a trail map at the main parking lot.

Once you get off the Grist Mill Trail (heavily populated), this route has a nice entry point through a cool tunnel with running water that opens to rocks and trees. The trail meanders along water, has a couple rocky areas, and is peaceful amongst the trees. You may find a mountain biker or two in a couple areas, but otherwise it's lightly trafficked and really puts you in nature. You'll come across butterflies and wild berries. I took a friend here and we really enjoyed this hike.
