Beautiful hike. We parked one car at Emerald Bay and then drove to D.L. Bliss and started the hike there. The views of the lake are spectacular. We ended at Vikingsholm and then collected our cars - about 4 miles on the trail and another one up the steep hill to the parking lot.

This a very steep, paved trail to the top of Mt. Woodson and great views of Ramona and all the way down to the ocean (on clear days). On the weekends there are tons of cars parked along the road, but it's much less crowded on weekdays. Bring plenty of water.

This is a great hike that's best done in the morning or evening, especially during the hot months - there's no shade. Wear a hat, bring water, and enjoy the views!

J Bird reviewed Marlette Lake Trail from Spooner Lake

This is a stunning hike. We started around 9 a.m. and much of the trail is shaded in the morning. There were tons of wildflowers and butterflies along the trail. It's uphill most of the way to the lake, but nothing too horrible. We ate lunch at the lake on the peninsula before hiking back. It was 5 1/2 hours round trip - that time includes the hour for lunch.

We did this hike at 5 p.m. The beginning is very flat, but then you have to go down to see the trees. We saw several clusters of enormous trees, but it would have been helpful if there were signs to let us know if there were more further on or if we had seen them all. The trail got narrower and started to look a bit overgrown, so we turned back soon after the cabin. The uphill hike back to the flat path was fairly steep in places.
