Fun, easy, scenic hike! Beautiful waterfall.

Did the St. Mary's Falls route - about 13.5 miles round trip. Definitely a challenge climbing out of the canyon. Really tough. Views are awesome - not quite a 14er but pretty darn close. Cool view of Pike's Peak.

Jessica Birkelo reviewed Grays and Torreys Peak Trail from Snoe Basin Mine

A great climb! If you're looking to try your first 14er(s), this is the way to go! Not too tough because of the steady uphill climb, but of course, difficult nonetheless. Be sure to bring layers - Gray's was super chilly and windy and Torrey's was HOT and not windy, weird! Only downside to this hike... SUPER trafficked. It felt like the Disneyland of 14ers with the long lines and groups of people.

My go-to hike when I want a good push in a short amount of time. Great views at the top! My favorite was at sunrise... definitely recommend!

Jessica Birkelo reviewed Island Lake Via Ice Lakes Trail

This is confusing to me. Maybe I missed a part where you are supposed to cut over trails to just Island Lake, but we made it up to Ice Lake first (which was amazing), and then got on a steep path up to Island Lake from there (which only took about 15 mins), so I don't know where this 7 mile timeframe comes from or where the base for that would begin. Besides that it was absolutely incredible! Didn't stay for long because the wind picked up a lot and it begin to lightly snow/drizzle. Very green water compared to Ice Lake. Super cool!

Jessica Birkelo reviewed Ouray Perimeter Trail

Just a disclaimer: we started this at 6:50pm. The sun set at 8:00pm. But nevertheless, we did the entire perimeter and finished by 9:15pm. The views were absolutely incredible! Very cool features - waterfalls, bridges, tunnels. But if you're scared of heights, word of warning and if you're not comfortable hiking in the dark, go in the morning.;) this was a perfect way to really get a good look at the heart of Ouray.

Jessica Birkelo reviewed Mount Sneffels Classic Route - Yankee Boy Basin

The views are beyond a 5-star rating - completely out of this world and so different than any other 14er. I have to give it 3 stars though because I don't think I could ever push myself to do it again - it was by far the most mentally challenging climb I've done to date - many "life or death" moments with steep steep uphill scree shifting beneath every step you take up to the ridge and then again up to the summit. The V-Notch was a test of true grit, be sure you research this part well so you're not surprised when you see it. The summit wasn't crowded at all, we even had about 5 mins of it completely to ourselves. It was hardly windy either which was a plus and a surprise. But all we could think about was the journey down, and it certainly was difficult. Had to use 3 points of contact minimum for most of the stretch. Great experience but one should really assess their mental stamina and physical capabilities before daring to attempt this one.

Jessica Birkelo reviewed Ice Lake Basin Trail

Let me tell you. My best friend and I have hiked all over New Zealand, Iceland, and Colorado and this hike was by far the most majestic yet. We were fatigued from doing a 14er the day before, but we were able to push it to the top and enjoy both Ice Lake and Island Lake before the afternoon light rain showers rolled in. We started at about 10:00am on a Saturday and the lot was full, but the weather was great all day! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great until you get to the service road STAY TO THE RIGHT otherwise you'll be headed on the highway to Pikes Peak. Otherwise a beautiful outing. I would rate it on the easier side of moderate.
