Perfect, quiet hike. Add another mile or so to summit Mary's Peak. It was a cloudy, damp day and I only ran into 3 other groups on the trail. Lots of old trees, mushrooms, ferns. Smells wonderful. It's a solid uphill hike. I'm in shape and I felt it the next morning.

This trail (the 5.3 mile one listed) is 75% gravel road. As the actual trail is heavily trafficked, numerous cars drove by and it was not the best. I wanted a longer hike, so I parked farther up, but if I were to do it again I'd park near the trailhead and just do the short hike down to the falls, which is spectacular and why I rated this trail higher. The trailhead is not hard to find; these directions worked perfectly. The tricky part is once you start on the trail. My advice is to stick to the left once you e found the trail as there are several opportunities to go right. I hiked down the river a ways on my way back from the falls and found some people who had taken a right somewhere on the trail, and it looked messy. Stay left! The trail does have ropes to help you get down, but they are well places. I'd be hesitant to hike this after a good rain as it would be slick. I would take an adventurous 5 year old, but not any younger than that.

Amazing trail, very sectioned out with different landscapes and sceneries. I started at Devils Lake trail, so it was closer to 12.5 miles. Ascended in 4:30 on 8/11. It was clear when we started, and we were surrounded by thunderstorms by the last mile of the ascent. Very strenuous trail, especially last 1.25 miles with loose red rock. Brought our dogs (two small poodle breeds) and their feet were worn and raw by the time we summited. Between storm clouds and smoke haze from nearby forest fires, we didn't have a clear view, but what we could see was fantastic. No sure water access, but we did find a small glacier fed trickle about 4 miles up. Moraine lake is about 2 miles up, but .5 miles off trail. I recommend bringing all the water you will need. Took us 8.5 hours total, with a 45 min lunch stop. The butterflies had to be he most amazing thing... they were around from start to finish but we're numerous at the summit. If you stand still (long enough to stop breathing hard) you can hear the flutter of their wings. Will do again on a clearer day.

Amazing trail to backpack! I went in late July. The river was GUSHING which made the ford very challenging (and a bit dangerous). Glacier Pass was covered in, well, glaciers. This made the trail difficult to follow and we were not prepared to pass over snow, but we managed without losing any party members :) Lakes Basin was beautiful, albeit there were lots of mosquitos. My party was made of 4, and we had two small dogs travel with us. Lakes full of little trout and were a swimmable temperature, trails were well maintained (save the glacier thing), wild flowers were blooming like crazy, sunsets were gorgeous. One night was clear enough to star gaze for hours. There was a thunderstorm and we had some good rain the third night. Excellent trip, highly recommended.

One hour drive from Salem. Last couple miles were dirt road, but no problem with the Ford Fusion in July. Used nav to get there, otherwise could have gotten lost on dirt roads. Hike was pretty short to the bases of the waterfalls. There are an upper and a lower falls. The upper falls have a steep rocky descent that was challenging and quite fun. Two swimming areas, great view. The lower falls were easily accessible and it's an easy river hike to the top of the upper falls! Definitely would do again. Great area to rest a while, picnic, or sling a hammock somewhere close by.
