Full sun and uphill all the way in until turn around. Super views throughout. Make sure to take the marked trail to the right just after the trailhead. Drive to the second parking lot (gravel, rough road) to get the the trailhead.

Hiked in both sun and shade. Follow the dry creek bed - no marked path. Lots of boulders and downed trees to traverse. Started at 7:30a and once we were in the sun, it was already hot. Worth the hike - Big Falls had plenty of water today.

Easy going at first then lots of climbing over boulders, etc. Waterfall at the end was only a trickle at this point in the season. Might go in March next year to try to see it with more water.

great views throughout the hike. Icy patches last week but all melted this weekend. Plenty of water in the tank at the end today.

My 8 year old loved this- plan on going back when the waterfall is there. Easy to follow and you know when you hit the end.... can't go any further.

Easy to follow trail for the first mile, then it gets a little more unclear as where to continue. We made it 1.6 miles in and ended up turning around after that - wasn't sure where to find the waterfall but will go back in the cooler months to see if we can find it. Suggest long pants if you decide to head into the more 'forested' area - lots of thorny bushes, cactus, etc.

Parked at the Lone Mountain Discovery Park off Jensen Drive by the horse stables and walked the loop which turned out to be a little over 2 miles. Found the trail leading up to the top on the back side from where we started so we will be going back to complete the hike to the top. Best to park in the lot off Vegas Vista Drive if you are going to take the hike to the top - trailhead is right there.

Hike to the top is a little over 1 mile roundtrip- also, this will depend if you go all the way up to the right.

Parked at Calico 1 and hiked down and to the right until couldn't go any further. Then went back to the left and hiked over to almost Calico 2 parking lot and back to our car. Lots of scrambling over rocks throughout - very beautiful rock formations. Plan to go back and hike from Calico 2 to Tanks. The map on this site is not where we went but followed the trail info from the park hiking guide.

Starts and finishes at the visitor center (which is a great and informative center to visit). Trail markers are just OK so we ended up going a little further than we should have before we turned around and headed up the ridge and back down and around the loop. Ended up at 2.5 miles total. No shade so do this early in the day.

Busy on the weekend morning. Good elevation climb and great views from the top. Nice waterfalls at the top with cold water - perfect after the hot hike up. There is a lower parking lot, long road and an upper lot right at the trailhead.

Parked one car at the tram parking lot, parked the second at the La Luz trailhead further north. Took the tram back down from the top. Great day for this hike. Total hike was around 8 miles and took us a little over 4 hours. Great views. Both shady (chilly) and sunny spots. Lots of rock slides to traverse. Wished I would have worn my hiking boots instead of trail runners.

Trailhead was easy to find and trail was well marked on the way up. We must have missed a turn off on the way down because we ended up in a residential area and had to walk the road to get back to Tramway Blvd and our car. Great views along the way. There wasn't a certain place that we could find that ended the trail so we went with the 2.5 mile mark via our GPS and turned around. It appears to connect with other trails which go further up the mountain. Fun hike and would love to do it again. Took our 4 year old - no problems but at higher elevations, there are some drop offs we had to watch out for as the path narrows.

Nice little hike- partial shade. A few different loop trails to follow but there are a lot of off-shoots so we used the map provided at the visitor center to stay on track. Took my 4 year old son this morning and he enjoyed the hike, river, bridges and turtles at the center which also had very friendly staff.

Took my 4 year old son shortly after moving to NM. Easy hike through the forest. Waterfall (about 15 feet high) was running a little lower than I expected but he loved it nonetheless. Make sure to climb to the top to check it out from a different perspective.
