NEW ROUTE! We are locals. DONT GO the normal way through where all the signs are, through the short bamboo forest and then into the valley clearing. The state has put up a nice new fence around the whole reservoir and they are actively working on it. Instead. Park in the parking area, go to the Right, where there is a locked fence double door. There is a whole in the left side of the fence. Go through there. Go Left down road, then Left again. Bamboo Forrest and mud.Once in clearing follow the brown signs with yellow arrows. Use your phones Google maps to see the different trail options. Remember, once you hear the Lulumahu stream just follow it up and cross everyonce in a while as needed. VERY MUDDY. Wear correct shoes! Bring clean clothes to change into after.

A fantastic Kid friendly hike! Like most hikes, wear appropriate foot wear. Our 7 and 9 year old had a great time and were able to vear off the trail a little to enjoy the area. There are some areas where you will need to use your hands a little, nothing major. Pack a lunch to relax at the falls area. Its beautiful!

A dry, hot hike. Do it early like 8am or sooner... OR at Sunset, 6pm (for sunset at 7:15) The hike up will be warm but not as bad as mid day. We call it a "Sunset Hike" its the best time and the walk back down is nice and fresh. The view the whole way is pretty if you stop to look up. It is kid friendly, but it can also be crowded... And there will always be at least 1 dog on the trail. Most people are nice. If you are taking small kids leave promptly after sun set or a little sooner to make it down before dark and beet the crowd going down. Nobody wants to feel rushed while going down the steep dry terrain

Not a "hike" per say... A good walk or bike ride or picnic along the loch in one of the gazebos. Good place to take your kids to ride bikes or scooters.

Beautiful hike. More of a moderate hike due to multiple stream crossings. Not for elderly or weak footed people. Family friendly, if hikers... You WILL get dirty... The path on the left is crazy muddy at first! But the valley view once out of the mud is pretty. The route on the right goes through the bamboo forest.
