Jennifer Foley reviewed Ridge Trail to Giant Mountain and Rocky Peak Ridge

The views from Giant are good, both along the way and at the top, but from RPR it's pretty spectacular-- walking around the open, rocky peak you can see 280 degrees. The backside of Giant taking you down to head up RPR is a bit of a bear-- parts of it are very steep, open rock. Some were slick with mud/water as well. And since this is an out and back you do get that part coming and going (it's a bit easier going up). Our mileage clocked in at 8.4 rather than 7.5.

Very pleasant forest trail. There are a couple of spots where you get a bit of a view on the way up, and the view at the top is great.

Jennifer Foley reviewed Indian Head Mountain and Echo Lake via Overlook

Beautiful views at the top of Overlook and Indian Head with a pretty forest trail in between. We did this as an overnight, a little over ten miles the first day and almost the same the second. We did the fire tower and the trek down to Echo Lake and our mileage came in at 20.0. The majority of the trail is moderate, although there are some parts going up and down Indian Head that required a fair amount of scrabbling and more difficult climbing. We did the loop around Indian Head clockwise and would recommend going that direction. We were out the last weekend in April and there was still quite a bit of ice on Indian Head starting at about 3300' and we were regretting not bringing our spikes. A lot of the trail runs up stream beds and there are only a few places with diversion channels, so be prepared for a wet hike in the spring!

Jennifer Foley reviewed Old Loggers Path

We arrived too late to do the loop so we did a 15 mile out and back with an overnight. The first few miles follow old logging roads (as the trail name suggests), but once you get off those roads it's a pretty forest hike. We had a great night at a campsite by the stream.

Note that you shouldn't approach the trailhead on Pleasant Stream Road from the east-- the road and bridge are washed out and the trailhead parking lot can't be reached from this direction.

Jennifer Foley reviewed North Country Trail: PA 346 to ASP 2

We did a small part of this about six months ago and came back to do from the PA line to ASP 3. There was about 8 inches of fresh snow on the trail, and parts of it had deep mud under the snow, so it was slow and slippery. We recalled the trail being pretty clear to see when there isn't snow, but with the ground covered it wasn't always easy to find where we were meant to go. At about the 6.5 mile mark the blazes disappeared. We spent quite a while trying to find any markers, but ended up having to bushwhack our way downhill to the Mt. Tuscarora trail to take us back to the road and our car. There were footprints in the snow from a few other people who had also wandered around trying to find where the trail continued (and failing). It's a pretty forest trail when you can find it.
