Did this hike on Sunday (08/18/2019). I didn't exactly plan to summit Stanley but was headed for Berthoud Pass and decided to continue on since the weather conditions were still good. The trail was clear, dry, and easy to follow since there wasn't any snow or mud. There are cairns along the way to help guide you if you can't see the trail for some reason or another. It was VERY windy above the tree line! Definitely needed a jacket and gloves could have been helpful to keep hands warm. The hardest part is the steep switchbacks about 1-1 1/2 miles in. Some people had trekking poles which definitely have them an advantage going up. The trail levels out and is mostly flat which makes for a very pleasant trip up and down. Lots of dogs on the trail! Most were leashed but very friendly so if your dog isn't dog friendly you may no want to take them on this trail. Other than the wind it was an absolutely perfect hike!

This is a beautiful trail! It's not too difficult for an experienced hiker and my cousin's from MA also had no issues making it there and back. It's quite rocky and a little muddy in some areas. The mosquitos along this trail are vicious! Definitely bring bug spray! The views all along the trail are amazing! We also saw 3 moose on our way back down which was incredible! If you do a lot of hiking/plan to do a lot I'd recommend looking into getting a National Parks Pass ($80 annually) because it's $12 for the day which can add up quickly.

This is a fairly easy hike from the Bear Lake TH or Glacier Gorge TH. It's a very accessible spot which makes it quite crowded. There are a lot of spots to sit by the waterfall to relax. I hiked here on my way back on a loop from Flattop (began at Bear Lake) on Friday (08/09/2019) and it was crowded by 2PM with lots of people still heading up. I can only imagine how busy it would be on a weekend day! It's a beautiful spot but I don't think I'd make it my sole destination. If you're doing the loop like I did and have tired legs I'd suggest going out at the Glacier Gorge TH and taking the shuttle back. If you have the extra energy it's only another 0.5 mile to the Bear Lake TH but it is a slight climb and can be rough on tired legs. I opted to go to Bear Lake and still could have done a lap around the lake. My friend did not feel as energetic though.

Hiked this as a part of a loop from the Bear Lake TH. If you come from Hallett it can be a bit hard to find the actual trail. Keep your eyes out for cairns to help guide you and if you can't figure it out just follow the curve that leads toward Otis and then head toward Taylor. I had decided ahead of time that we would just slide down the glacier. There were 3 guys who got there ahead of us and they had spikes and poles. They were skeptical, a bit worried, and thought I was crazy for going down without tools. I went first and slid down about half way and stopped myself with my heels and hands (I put my hands inside my windbreaker as I slid down). The snow was mostly soft with some icy patches throughout. It was fairly early in the afternoon and I don't think I would have wanted to do down any later. We slid down up until the talus but then realized going over that was more difficult and dangerous (sliding rock) than sliding down in the snow. The guys with spikes ended up sliding down some parts and we're amazed at how much easier (and fun) it was. I will say if you decide to slide down PROCEED WITH CAUTION! Conditions can vary and not everyone will have the same experience. We made it to the trail around the tarn (lake) and took many photos. It was an absolutely beautiful spot! We then continued on toward Loch Vale and Alberta Falls. We saw elk resting in a nice green spot just a little below the tarn/glacier.

Hiked up to Hallett from Flattop on Friday (08/09/2019). We began our hike at the Bear Lake trailhead around 6:30AM. We made it to Hallett well before 10AM and enjoyed a nice break at the summit. When we got there there were quite a few people resting, some where even taking naps (and snoring). The skies were so clear so the views from the top were amazing! Instead of heading back the way we came we decided to continue on toward Andrews Tarn & Glacier.

Hiked up to Flattop on Friday (08/09/2019). The trail is pretty easy to follow up until the last 1/2 mile or so. But if you keep your eyes open and look out for the cairns it's not too hard to find the way up. The views on the way up are incredible. We had clear sky's and the clouds were low which made for some really cool views/photos. The Dream & Emerald Lake overlooks are nice. Both lakes are absolutely gorgeous this time of year. We continued on toward Hallett Peak which I recommend if you have time. Began hiking around 6:30 (maybe a little after) and made it up by 9 with stopping to take LOTS of photos.

Hiked this trail 08/02/19 (Sat). We began hiking around 4:45PM. The trail is fairly easy to follow but we ended up missing the loop back on McClintock. The beginning part of the trail (Enchanted Mesa) is dog friendly but McClintock is not (probably why we missed the loop). We ended up following Mesa Trail and enjoyed the extra time/miles. It's a fairly shaded and very green hike. Great short hike for the end of the day (if you actually follow the loop!).

Hiked this trail on 08/03/19 (Sat). Got to the trail head before 6:30AM and there weren't too many cars there. We saw a few other people & dogs at the beginning but people branched off in different directions on the various trails. The steep incline starts about half a mile in and is pretty steady up until the arch. My dog and I have hiked a few 14ers so it was a fairly easy hike for us. The hardest part is there are some decently large step ups and I could see a smaller dog (I have a husky) struggling a bit. We sat at the arch for a bit and then headed down. There was definitely more traffic on the way down. Many dogs on the trail & some off leash so if your dog isn't dog friendly I probably wouldn't recommend this trail. There are also a few picnic tables and picnic areas along the trail which is nice.

The road up to the trail head is rough! Definitely recommend a vehicle with decent clearance and/or 4 wheel drive. That being said, I did make it up in my Scion XB with LOTS if patience! The actual hike is beautiful! It's a fairly decent incline with a good portion being pretty flat. The most difficult part of the Grays trail is the very end with the steep, rocky switchbacks. Both my dog and I made it up fine and it honestly wasn't as strenuous as I thought it was going to be. The trail never felt overly crowded until we were coming down and there were parts where people seemed to be clustered together for quite some time. We didn't make it up to Torreys but it looked like there was still a decent amount of snow coming down. Many people just slid down and seemed to be having a lot of fun! Can't wait to go back and summit Torreys!
