Beware of ticks, they were falling from the trees on us at the campsite. The trail from creek to the campground is very overgrown but manageable. Enjoyed my time on Lower Rock Creek as always! This is an unofficial trail that is not maintained, be prepared for less than ideal conditions.

The parks are what makes St. Louis a great place to live.

Tourists and residents alike I suggest getting a Forest Park Guide book or read on the history of the park/area before embarking on park exploration, this will make the experience more enriching.

This area is quite possibly the most beautiful stretch of Missouri I have experienced. As Cory said pleas take care of this place. Pack in/pack out, practice safe fire use and watch out for snakes in the warmer months.

This is my absolute favorite trail in the St. Louis Area. The elevation gain is sufficient for hikers who like a challenge. The environment changes from rocky flint hilltops to low grassy prairie in the Meramec floodplain then down further to the river basin itself. The eastern section of the loop is the Flint Quarry Trail. Along this trail there are small bowls and trenches dug out all along the trail and surrounding area, these are the remnants of prehistoric quarries cut by indigenous people. The flint was used for tools by those people and is the highest concentration of prehistoric mines in North America.

For more history of the area check out this webpage below the author provides a vary detailed timeline of Lone Elk, Times Beach, Tyson Valley, West Tyson and Crescent Hills.

Disappointed to find the surface was paved. The trail runs right by some large boulders that have fractured off of the rock exposures. I used this trail to connect from Lime Kiln to Green Rock on the other side of Glencoe Road.

Steep, rocky, and slick after the rain. This trail was challenging yesterday as the surface was a mix of mud and ice. The deep valleys cut by several runoff basins connecting have created some incredible terrain and the limestone exposures are beautiful. Took the connector from Lime Kiln to Trail Among the Trees but I was disappointed to find that Trail Among the Trees is a paved surface. The trails are not marked at all and with so many different trails in this conservation area it is easy to get confused.

The trail was great, it is however a horse trail as well so there are some landmines. On the trail at 9am and went counter-clockwise. In hindsight going clockwise would have timed the sun better with the Western and Eastern facing overlooks. Taking the five minute white connector to the OT is a must.

Plenty of signs there are boars in this area, wallows, rooting and rubs.
