It had been 25 or so years since I'd been up this side, and I'd also forgotten how much easier it is in comparison to the Aspen Grove Trail head. I just love the long climbing switchbacks across the terraces, and how the views in both directions are changing continually throughout the hike. Between the two and three mile marks (approximately) there is also excellent opportunity to see plentiful sea life fossils, if you know what you're looking for. Water sources become more and more limited as the season draws out, so be aware, carry plenty and consider a filter. This mountain is so amazingly majestic, and never disappoints, at least in my opinion. Even if you only plan to hike to the basin, this is one of the easier places to always spot Mountain Goats, which is always entertaining. Excellent hike, I need to knock this one out again before the season is finished!

I haven't been out yet this year (work is cramping my style!) so I decided on a quick Father's Day hike to get the blood pumping. Went up to Twin Lakes, then over to Mary, Dog, then up to the top of the Crest Lift and back. Very little snow throughout, at least nothing to write home about at this point. Liked this trail well enough, although I think I'd prefer to go the Brighton-Mary-Twin route and back. Nice views, not very strenuous and a good way to kick my season off. Recommended for the whole family!

Go early as it can be insanely busy, especially during hot days. I've done this one quite a few times as a fast after-work-camping-fix on a Friday trip, but many more times while on my way to Tuscarora, Wolverine or Sunset Peak.

Spent two days backpacking & exploring around the entire loop and the trail was very easy to follow even though there was quite a bit of snow still in some places. Views from the Notch are incredible and can't be beat for the effort required to get there. A lot of bang for your buck up here, and some of the easiest high wilderness backcountry there is really, even if all you're interested in is a day hike. Next trip I'll have to go climb Mount Watson, and I definitely wont leave the fishing pole home either. Such beautiful country!

This is short enough that the elevation gain and altitude aren't a huge factor. Do you love the Uinta Mountains and are looking for some truly unique views? Look no further and get climbing! I normally use trekking poles but didn't the day I climbed this, and was not disappointed to have left them behind. Rocky, but just watch your step and keep moving, you'll be there in no time. Enjoyed the summit for 15-20 minutes solo before making a quick exit to beat an incoming rainstorm. Will be doing this one again, without a doubt.

Did a variation of this route, but in reverse: U-Bar Ranch to Chain Lakes, over Robert's Pass to Lake Atwood, over Trail Rider Pass to Painter Basin & Kings, Kings to Kidney Lakes, then back south to U Bar Ranch. Wanted to make it to Fox Lake but was rained out hard two days and fell behind, regardless, amazing trip and even more amazing country. The scenery and absolute scale of the Uinta Mountains is just mind blowing! Whether you're considering your 1st, or your 20th 50+ miler, this one is not only suggested, but highly recommended! Superb!
