Outside Is Awesome reviewed White Oak Canyon Trail

Great trail. Not a difficult hike to the falls since it’s downhill but the hike back up can be absolutely exhausting! I like the loop with Cedar Run for the full experience.

Not very impressed with this hike. For starters, it was VERY crowded on the trail. That’s never particularly fun and takes away from the outdoor experience. Second there wasn’t much to see on the almost 3 mile hike there (and back for that matter) and thirdly, I wasn’t wowed by the viewpoint. There are many better views if your willing to drive an extra 30 minutes. All in all, I doubt i will return.

Great views on the initial ascent up the mountain. It’s was pretty muddy considering all the recent rain but the higher I got, the dryer the trail. After a stream crossing, and another long climb, the North Ridge meets up with the AT. Here the trail turns into open pastures and more great views.

Probably would have enjoyed this hike more if we went in a warmer spring day. We went on a windy, very cold, January day. Hike to the top is short but all uphill with a good amount of steps. We took our dog with us but I don’t think he enjoyed the steps at all. View from the top is great but the wind was ripping and we didn’t stay up there long. Wanted to check out Buzzards Roost but didn’t have the opportunity today.

Have done this hike multiple times now but on our most recent outing we took a different route. We entered from Shenandoah National Park(route above) which decreased the distance to around a six mile hike instead of 11. The first three miles are straight down to falls and overlook. It hadn't rained in awhile and the river was bone dry with the waterfall. The view was still great but we came for the waterfall. It made for a very long 3 mile hike back up and out.

Outside Is Awesome reviewed Rolling Meadows Trail

Rolling Meadows is very easy to walk (definitely more of a walk then a hike) and is relatively flat for the most part. Excellent views of the surrounding countryside although nothing dramatic like the overlooks in Shenandoah National Park. Trails are very well maintained and wide which is nice when I bring my dog. Several creek crossings as well. Hiked several times but can't beat this one a cool fall day.

Leesylvania State Park is a great place to spend a day. Several hiking trails along the Potomac. Pretty easy as well, not much elevation. Beach fronts are nice and the pier is awesome. Great place!

Fun hike. Enjoyed the walk across the bridge over the Shenandoah and it's also part of the Appalachian Trail. You wind down under the bridge and then start heading up for awhile. It's a good climb but without much to look at. I did it with my chocolate lab and we reached the overlook in about an hour and a half. Great views from up there, a very solid payoff rewarding your efforts.

Outside Is Awesome reviewed Staunton River Trail to Bear Church Rock

A long hike next to a river. It's nice spending a few miles by the water but unfortunately there are little to no memorable spots along the way. The view from Bear Church Rock is truly great but then it's time to repeat the monotonous 3.5 mile hike back down. Not bad hike but also not a very memorable one. There better options in the Shenandoahs but if your looking for something new then give this a try.

Trail not well maintained and very muddy. Not well marked and goes through the middle of a kids camp. Do not think I will go back, many other better options.

Fun hike. We did it clockwise so we hiked the AT & Widcat Ridge portion first. This section was mostly uphill but at a very gradual ascent. There wasn't much to see or do and the trail was very narrow (throughout the entire hike). None the less it was a nice hike through the woods (we went clockwise to do this part first and save the waterhole and views for the end). We did pass some hikers that encountered a bear and a rattlesnake not far from we were but we didn't see either. The swimming hole was refreshing on the hot day and the view points were a nice place to chill for awhile. Some steep uphill climbs to get to those views but it was worth it.

Nice short hike. Good views to the west but views on the eastern spur were not so great.

Good moderate trail with great views at the top. Hiked in February with snow on the trail. It is steep from the get go but levels out about a mile up. The bridge connecting the two peaks at the top is pretty cool! Also snow covered rocks were pretty slippery at summit so had to be careful.

Nice place but felt more "manufactured" and less organic. Hiking trials to close to the roads, buildings, and picnic areas. Nice views though and my dog got to swim in the river. Probably be a great place to drop a kayak into the river and spend an afternoon on the water but hiking was just average at best.

We brought our six month old lab here for his first hike in mountains. Having hiked some of the more "dramatic" hikes in the park, I didn't go into this one with a lot of expectation other than a nice walk in the woods. I was pleasantly surprised though. Not much elevation change but there are a couple of hills to climb. The walk up the path through the electrical poles was pretty cool. The farm itself was a nice stopping point. Not much to look at, basically an old barn but fun anyway. We kept going and came to a really nice overlook on Dickeys Ridge and took some pics. All in all nothing crazy but it did exceed my expectations.
