This is a great trail for a hard but not too technical climb of a 14er..long enough to make it difficult and some fun but not crazy scrambling and route finding to get up to the summit ridge. The parking can be a challenge due to the Mt Elbert trailhead close by so arrive before 6am to give yourself enough time. Also lots of varied terrain from the CO trail at start to the high meadow with wild flowers. Superb views from the top. There was a fair amount of traffic on the trail this Saturday but not at all overcrowded.

Did full section of trail shown + uphill section up to Snake Pit. This is a mountain biker paradise but for trail running gets a 3. Trails are great for bikes but not as great for running. The uphill portion on SW side back up to Snake Pit was much better for running. Went about a mile up Snake Pit and had great views of Beaver Dam Range. Only saw a few bikers on trail. Very hot day.. bring lots of liquids.

Did the full loop counter clockwise at Sunrise. Started at SE end of trail off access road coming up from one of the newer neighborhoods off Dixie. This trail offers great views of the area in all directions but does get harder to follow on the West - SW side going up through boulder fields before the descent. Lots of cairns to help mark the way in most cases. As already noted you also get an excellent look at the trail system in the valley to the South-SW. Giving it a 5 due to easy access and super views.

Did trail run from Kenosha pass to the high ridge line about 1 mi before Georgia Pass. Great views of the peaks above Breckenridge. This is an excellent stretch for trail running - low traffic on this Sunday and nice steady elevation gain up to Georgia Pass. A little snow on trail above 11k but nothing to slow you down much.

Fun trail run.. ran from start of Waterton Canyon to a few miles above Lenny’s rest out and back. The lower canyon up to the dam is nice and gradual - great for any easy hike or ride with the Family. Some great elevation on the single track above the Dam. Unfortunately views today were restricted with low cloud cover above the dam.

Did this hike today with the family. Fantastic views and the fire tower is very cool. Nice trail on the way up with lots of cover - shade and cool rock formations to check out and view. I would have given it a 5 star but the trailhead and trail were very crowded in part due to the holiday. If you are looking for a hike to get away from the crowds this is not it. However it is very family friendly with restrooms at the top by the Tower and nice places to picnic, eat etc. Give yourself some extra time to get to the trailhead with the last 10 miles or so on the dirt road and the potentially busy parking area.

Went up Bison Peak yesterday. The other reviews describe the climb very well... the first 2 miles start out fairly moderate and the grade gets steeper especially coming up the last part of the ridge before intersecting with B. McCurdy to head NE up to the summit plateau. The rock formations leading up to the top were amazing. However our view was totally socked in. We were in some pretty thick cloud cover leading up to the summit and actually went to a false summit a few hundred meters to the east first until checking and realizing our error. Also take good note of the cairns marking the turn off to the summit. The B McCurdy - wilderness loop trail disappears in the tundra at this junction. I definitely would like to go up again on a clear day to take in the views. Great workout and fairly easily done in about 1/2-3/4 of a day if you are in shape. Make sure to leave early to give yourself enough time to enjoy the rock formations and explore the upper plateau. Also looked like some good camping spots up at the main trail intersection of Ute Creek and B. McCurdy.

Did trail run today with a couple of loops around the Mesa. trails are in great shape. Not much shaded area so start early if hot. Nothing technical except maybe the short steeper climb (few hundred meters) from hidden Mesa trail to the top intersection with rim loop trail. Excellent views from top.

Climbed up Silver Star today starting at Tarbell TH off Dole Valley via Chinook trail 180B to the main 180 trail to Summit. Superb views of St. Helens. Adams and Ranier today. Mt Hood was under clouds. A little overgrown on parts of 180B but overall trails are in great shape. Registered 14.8 miles out and back on the Garmin. Only do this route if you start early. I trail ran most of Tarbell to 180B to cut the time down ...4 hours overall...2.5 to top and then 1.5 hours to return. First time on Silver Star - views are fantastic including view of downtown PDX in distance and all major Cascade peaks in area.
