Jason Roberson reviewed Salt Ponds - Kauai

Really not a hike. More of a walk. Try to watch sunset here. The catamarans some around the point and stop to watch sunset. If your lucky, seals might join you.

Good trail and super easy. Best by bike. Interesting stop at the pineapple dump. Don't forget to stop at Donkey Beach. Most likely you'll have it to yourself.
Great trail to watch the sunrise.

Jason Roberson reviewed Kuamo'o Trail to Sleeping Giant (Nounou) Mountain

I was wondering why it is rated as moderate. I thought it should be easy.... until you reach the 2 mile mark. At the 2 mile mark, take a right at the big boulder. Then it inclined and that's where it starts moderate. Fantastic views of the ocean at the top. Be sure to take the small trail to the left when you reach the chin. Cool winds will blow through the small tunnel. A very good place to rest and snack. When going back down the trail, stay left to go back the way you came. If your seeing the ocean, you went the wrong way.

Best to take bikes on this easy trail. You won't miss anything by biking. It's mostly dirt road. Half sun, half shade during mid day. Not as much natural vegetation. The trees are all obviously planted in rows. The trail weaves through private properties. I wouldn't make this a priority trail if you love the natural beauty of Kauai. Great for a bike trail and some miniature golf at the trail head.

Nice trail for views. It's rated at moderate but I would put it at the lower end of moderate. If available, park one car at the other end which at the Moalepe Trail head and start at the Kuilau Trail head. That makes it a 4 mile hike one way. After a rain, look across the valley and you'll probably see a new waterfall. Your only 5 miles from the center of the island which is the wettest place on earth!

Good for a quick jaunt. 2 sets of falls. They are nice but don't really compare to others available on the island. The trail has recently been fenced off because of private land. It's best to respect local privacy.
