    Jason Parkhurst reviewed Windsor Trail

Just got back from this hike - this is sort of an updated post to my previous post. I finally completed the entire trail this time! This is still one heck of a but kicker of a trail! If your like me, You will be questioning your life choices. Mostly you will question the choice to hike this trail instead of any of the easier trails on the mountain. My dog and I started at 5:45 and we got back just before 8:30 - we ran some of the way down the mountain. Amazing views at the top though - especially at Brownsville rock - which in all my times hiking this mountain had never been to for some reason. We were there just about sunset - it was amazing!

Awesome hike! I felt like Frodo and my dog was Sam pushing me along. Unfortunately we didn’t quite make the summit (we took the bypass at 0.2 miles from the summit) since my dog couldn’t make the vertical rock climbing part. Have to do it again not via the long trail and see if we can reach the summit. Even though we didn’t reach the summit there were still some amazing views

I can’t say how this hike is as I didn’t make it. I just wanted to post that on Easter Sunday 2018 there was a road closed sign on the road to the trailhead due to mud. I was told the trailhead was about 4 miles up this muddy road so I didn’t risk it with my little Prius. Just be aware. I ended up doing a nice nearby hike to Holts ledge instead.

Nice hike - I ended up here on accident because in my effort to reach the trailhead for smarts mountain - I was greeted with a road closed sign due to mud. So I hiked this instead on Easter Sunday since it was there for the hiking. Relatively easy. It didn’t feel to me anything like 1.7 miles. Great view at the ledge.

I knew this was going to be a rough hike when I saw the 3,000 foot plus elevation gain on the app. Another hiker on the trail said to me it had the feel of one of the high peaks of the Adirondacks. It's a real but kicker and a good challenge - it's uphill all the way (well I guess it does level off slightly toward the top). Unfortunately for me it was raining, windy and there was no view when I got to the summit as it was all fog. There were quite a few people at the top - most from the toll road having lunch in the building. The building is nice as it offered a spot to refill the water jugs. I'll have to take the toll road next time as it's not a hike I really want to do again right away.

Most of the trail is pretty easy as far as hiking mountains go. It does get steep in one section near the top. It also gets confusing as the trail isn't well marked in spots near the top. The best view I found was at the top of the lift.

I can only speak for the first three quarters of the hike as I didn't make it all the way (just simply ran out of time). I found myself very much unprepared for how steep this is even after hiking the weathersfield trail, bromley, stratton and killington over the past few months. Drink plenty of water before during and after as this is a good workout. And don't wear cotton (especially in winter)

Pretty good hike - it was more of a workout than I expected. The view at the top is as good as your fear of heights I think. My fear is pretty high so I didn't get too close to the edge of the cliffs. It's a long way down. All and all a nice hike in the LT/AT.
