Jason Dodd reviewed West Rim Trail to Lava Point

We just did this hike last Saturday. Started at Lava Point and hiked to the Grotto Trail head with Tom Saxon, Karl Rosette and myself. According to the map and trail markings the hike is a little over 13 miles. It took us a little over 6.5 hours to complete we only stopped a couple times. Expect full sun exposure during the majority of this hike. I took 200 ounces of water and used almost all of it. The trail is well marked super easy to follow. I would rate this hike slightly above moderate in difficulty. There are a couple steep climbs but nothing crazy if you take your time. We only seen a couple other hikers until we got near Boy Scout overlook at Angels Landing. It got really crowded at Angels landing. The views are incredible 100% worth the pain.

Delayed review from May 2015. Super enjoyable stroll along the river. Lots of places for cool pictures. Seen plenty of squirrels and birds along the way. Splashed around in the water when we got to the end. Overall fun afternoon. Easy hike with Marcy Jones

I am late getting this review done by several months. Overall I enjoyed the hike. We had full sun to deal with so it took a little enjoyment away from the experience. The trail is very popular expect to see lots of people on this hike. Easy hike with Marcy Jones May 2015.

This is a delayed review from October 10, 2015. I found this hike to be very challenging. Looking back almost a year later I can say this is the hike that inspired me to loose weight and start getting in better shape. We started early in the morning to beat the heat. You will be exposed to full sun for much of this hike. The view from the top is amazing. I hiked with a great group of friends Tom Saxon, Stephanie Saxon, Seth Saxon and Jeff Friend.

Epic. This is by far my favorite hike. This is a delayed review. We actually hiked this on May 26, 2015. We got a late start so we had to deal with the afternoon sun. I recommend starting early to beat the heat. Walters wiggles was the hardest part for me. I loved the last section hanging on to that chain for dear life.

This is a great bike trail easy to follow. It can get really crowded in the mornings. Lots of different activities taking place at the same time biking, running, walking, hiking and a few people just sitting on the benches watching.

I did not prep for this hike at all in fact it was a last minute suggestion. I am not in shape and could stand to loose about 25lbs, 43 years old. We took trail head canyon to the north loop all the way to the peak. Total time was just shy of 10.5 hours. We got very luck with the weather absolutely no direct sun exposure (cloudy day). I took 200oz of water and only had about 10oz left when we got to the truck. This was the hardest hike I have ever done in my life. The first 2 plus miles on trail head canyon is loose rocks and very difficult to climb worse coming down. The views from the top are worth the pain.
