Excellent hike but do upper first then lower to avoid steep switch back the other way around. Windy point is worth the jaunt. Depending on the season bears and cougars are noted.

Great condition with very little snow after second bridge. Must cross two bridges and continue about a quarter mile after second bridge to reach "shelter". Then turn around. We were unsure and turned around too soon a little after the second bridge- got to a little creak and headed back. Met some backpackers who were staying over night and they said we should have gone a little bit further. Next time.

The FS roads are poorly labeled and even on the hike we took a path to the Royal basin hike by mistake. Thankful for the trip map and trip reports but more people focused on pot holes than land markers or trail markers.

Great hike.. little far to go from Seattle but a great flat hike if you want something that's not all switch backs and elevation. The forest floor and trees are beautiful. Lots of deer on the road in too!
