Wow this is a challanging trail for a new hiker who may be ummm slightly out of shape! This was my 12 or 13 hike. It is a little over four miles in and then back out the same way. I have to say that I am a fan of loops more than out and backs personally. This trail is also up hill the entire way. The ENTIRE way. LOL. it may be easier as sent said for the first mile and a half but it is still a graded incline. And an increase in elevation!! Waterfall at the end is the pay off :). Saw three baby bear run along side me on my way back out :) Beautiful wooded scenary, moss covered rocks and fallen wood. Pretty much a green tunnel the entire way (covered by tree leaves!)

Go early. Parking is limited and the trail gets busy. The trail is part way up a one way road. Along the way you find some old homesteads, more pull offs and views and if youre lucky, black bear (I saw five). You can walk behind the waterfall but again if it's later in the morning or day, it's going to be busy. Limits your photo ops and peaceful serenity haha.

As someone else said, not much of a hiking trail. Hiking trail to me means my shoes are going to get dirty ;) It is a paved path around the park. It does get messy due to the ducks and geese around the park as well. And it can be very buggy. Glad I sprayed bug spray before i went or the mosquitos would have had a Hay day! It would be a nice hike with kids, elderly and pets since it is paved and flat.

I hate to give anything a bad review and partly, this one is my fault !

So first off, this is the first national park I've been to where I had my pack searched for weapons or alcohol. A table was set up on your way into the hiking trails.

Second, it was memorial day weekend. I went after church ended. It was packed!!! There were hundreds of people. The parking was insane. You had a half mile hike on the road before you even get to the trail head. There were tons of people there that were unprepared for the heat and trek.

The trail itself is a nice walk. I did about two miles to loop the whole things but I did not go all the way down the Waters edge to the waterfall. There was simply too many people for my tastes.

When there are that many people ... there is no trail etiquette. No right of way. Litter. Noise. Smoking. It's kind of sad to see such a beautiful natural resource abused like that.

I would love to go back but I think it will wait till a week day, perhaps in the fall once school is back in?? Or crazy early before the rest of the crowds get there. This is a park that oepns at 8 am as well.

    I loved this hike!

    1. The park does not open till 8 am. I got lucky and the ranger was opening the gate at 730 as I arrived.

    2. There is plenty of parking. A restroom is under construction but they have outhouses currently.

    3. The views are spectacular ! Three sets of falls, small, medium and large. Take the walk. See them all. It is so worth it. The inclines aren't too bad. Just take your time.

    4. Leashed dogs are allowed.

    5. There is a butterfly garden as well. Didny see any while I was there but it could have been the time of year / day as well.

It was beautiful. I sat and just listened to the water and the sounds of mother nature. Go!

This trail is rated as difficult but I think that's more for the mountain bikes and the sharp turns they will have to make. There are a couple of hills but nothing too crazy. I would rate this more as an easy trail personally. It is also listed as seven miles. You don't have to do seven miles! The trails are completely woven around and near each other. I did a mile and a half loop. I saw eight turtles and many many deer! It was a nice easy walk. I was also on the trail at 530 in the morning when no one else was!

There are so many intertwined trails here! They are not well marked. I ended up following the mainline trail all the way around (aprox 1.4 miles). There are many off shoot trails you can take, especially as you get close to the water. The trails are popular with mountain bikers so remember to yield to them! I would not classify these trails as easy though. There are many ups and downs and a lot of stepping over tree roots. Good trail. Good work out. There is lots of parking and restrooms at the trail head. my GPS said to turn on pool road but it's Concord Park road.

    happy trails!
