Janet Dybek reviewed East Inlet Trail to Lake Verna

Trip dates:: 6/15-17. You want to enjoy lakes in close proximity to each other? Do this hike. We enjoyed a two night three days backpacking trip here. Stayed at the Solitaire campground. From here all the lakes from Verna lake n on is accessible all the way to Fifth Lake which is the very last lake on the map. Its marshy and about a foot deep in but if u don’t mInd then by all means head up towards the Fifth Lake- it’s gorgeous!! Lots of downed trees and the trail is not maintained after Verna Lake and you will see a sign that will indicate that. Lots of water and gushing falls. Bonus: a few actual man made steps makes the uphill hike a beautiful photo op. Lots of vista points as well. Very busy trail head but thins out and it’s just you and the wild as you go higher. A bear crossed our path on the way out. Never happened to us in our 12+ years of backpacking. Reminder that this is CO and is there’s very much “wild” left in the wilderness.

Backpacking trip June 1—3, 2018. This was a fairly moderate hike even with a bacKpack. We stayed at the Tonahutu horse camp site after making an attempt to reach Haynack Lake on the first day. The reviews that talked about the trail not visible is true if you are rushing. Thru careful use of the AllTrails app and the downloaded layers we found the trail but decided to proceed the following day. We started late and sun was setting. You need daylight to get an accurate read of the trail. Downed trees and about 90% of the trail covered in snow as you start from the HAYNACH LAKE. (LLAMAS PERMITTED) trail. ⬅️ this is the trail you have to be on to go to Haynach Lakes. You will start uphill and about 1000 feet the snow will begin. The whole area is covered in snow 100%!
You will need snowshoes. Or you will post hole. Most definitely. You will see two lakes before you get to Haynach Lake. And they were frozen 100%. Gorgeous area! Well worth the effort and I agree with AllTrails. This is a lightly traffic area that I favor myself! Nobody was on the Haynach Lake Llamas trail at all. The best!

Backpacked to Jasper Lake 5/4-5/5. Awesome trail but difficult due to the amount of snow. Winter warning advisory was in full force. Def a snowshoe territory that week. Trail was difficult to find but AllTrails def helped a lot. Lake was frozen almost 100% . Not a soul in sight which made it so much more attractive. The route to the lake was for us traversing a few spine tingling traverse but made it to the 100% frozen lake finally and went home after two nights.

Janet Dybek reviewed Finch Lake and Pear Lake Trail

Just came back from an overnight trip to Finch lake. In the 18th n out the 19th. First day was great. Dry and sunny. This is not that difficult of a trail without the snow. Even with the elevation gain of 2772. Patches of snow about 3 miles in that were mostly mushy and def made more manageable with snow shoes. As you go towards Pear lake it just gets worse. Only met three people total on our first day. It rained last night with all the thunder n lightning to go with it.
Today was cloudy and it hailed, rained and snowed from 11am n was still snowing till we got to our car around 2pm.
There is a dedicated campsite in Pear Lake I don’t think Finch lake has one. Of the two Pear is the biggest and prettiest. Second day it was just us.

A must! Was last here Weds the 16th of March when Boulder got dumped by at least 4-6 inches of snow. It was so different from my first hike when it was dry. It was instead very windy! I had to hold on to rocks, branches or get pushed off the trail. Both hikes were extreme n both times I summit the peak. Each occasion made difficult by ice/snow/wind. But this is gorgeous!

Great trail. Steep and pretty much clear of rocks making it ideal for backcountry skiing and snowshoeing! Four legged friends are welcome but on leash. Views are awesome as you progress and get higher. We went yesterday and if you go sometime soon you will be rewarded with fresh deep powder!
