This is a great trail to hike or mountain bike. It is also a local favorite with dog owners and horseback riders. The trails are fairly well marked, but you have to look for signs at each junction, sometimes they are hidden. I enjoy this trail as most times I hike or ride, I often have the entire trail to myself. Maybe it is the time of day I am free.

There is also a memorial to miners who were buried in mine accident many years ago. Every few trips I make a quick stop to pay my respects. There are also signs warning about spots where the ground has sunk into an old mine shaft near the trail. In these areas, stay on the trail don't venture into the pits, every few years someone who does so needs to be rescued.

This is also home to a large elk herd. If you hear noises in the trees not far off the trail, you might catch a glimpse of a large Roosevelt elk. They are majestic creatures and often retreat immediately.

I'm not sure how to change the map for this trail, but it is much longer than 1.7 miles. Has views of the Cedar River, crosses many other named trails, and crosses several roads, two. I scared a few elk and encountered more than few horseback riders.

Its a nice easy trail that is a single path and grown over in places. At times it is not well marked and only because I've been walking and riding it for several years do I know it so well. I have it at 6.3 miles long in a complete loop.

Loved this hike. It was great for a quick afternoon explore. Make sure to save time for resting and enjoying the view at the falls.

Start the trail counter-clockwise if we want to climb quickly or follow it clock-wise if you have small children or a someone needing a more gentile climb.

There are two spots where you have to climb over blow-downs that could use a chainsaw to be cleared.
