All I can say is wow! This Trail starts off at a nice gentle slope for about 1 mile, after that be prepared for some serious altitude gain. I did this hike in May 2018 and the mountains surrounding the trail were still covered in snow. there was a small river running across the trail which require waterproof boots and some careful footing. If you're looking for a real leg workout about halfway up you will come across a set of railroad tracks that were used for a pulley car to haul supplies up to the dam. You can take this track up to the dam but your legs better be in excellent shape. I measured a 37 degree incline.
I continued on to Gem Lake and it was worth the extra time and effort.

This is an awesome hike but hard to find the trail where it breaks off from the PCT. A good topo map should have it but it is about 2-3 miles from the trail head at Sonora Pass to the left right up a ridge line. Once to the top check out the Geo Cache and sign the book then sit back and enjoy the breath taking views. If you look at the photo I uploaded of the track I took the trail breaks off the PCT at the star waypoint marked as 12:18. Much shorter route to take then the one uploaded here.

Start off at Kennedy Meadows Resort and take a nice stroll through some beautiful country. Someone said there is no water but the trail pretty much follows the river and we never had an issue. The hike to Kennedy Lake is roughly 7 miles and relatively easy going once you get past the first 2 or so miles. Also this trail is open usually in May and only closes when they close Hwy 108 at Strawberry around November depending on the weather. This trek looks to go a good ways past the lake to the PCT.

Did this trail in May 2015 it has some pretty steep climbs in it and to the southern tip of the lake and back was over 10 miles making for a 6 hour day. Some really old equipment left on the trail from where they built it and some of the bridges and hauled equipment up to the dam. Great hike.

I did this hike in November 2015. Park at the kilns and the trail head is to the left of them with a marked sign. This is a very easy hike for 90% of the trail, the last mile or so is pretty steep going but worth the view when you get to the top. There is a geo cache there so don't forget to fill it out. It snowed on me when I was there which made it all the more beautiful. I would recommend this hike if you to Death Valley.
